I am a big fan of dirty places... the greaser the better. I have been treated nicely when I have been there. I have only had take out and very good I might add. I did meet Rosa and her husband who are great. I would agree of fixing up the joint but don't change the food. Some of the 5 star food places don't pass inspection 100%. Thanks Rosa and your staff.

It's ok...
...when it really should be great or at least good. Fortunately I received great service the time I went. The food was average - nothing out of the ordinary - but the one dish I had, the highly recommended Chipotle Shrimp Quesadilla, tasted like Chinese food. The one thing they can and should improve is the place itself. Considering it's been around for 20+ years you would think that it would be in better shape. One of my fellow diners responded with "People are use to it and if they make any changes they'll stop coming." That's idiotic! If people flock to it 24/7 I don't see how a remodeling would affect their preference for it. Many love this place but I know for sure it's not my cup of tea.

Love the food. Go there on friday night and listen to the musician. He's funny also.
I use to get the enchiladas but now I have discoverd how yummy her steaks are. Its kind of expensive but if you make a night of it and listen to the music its worth it. Service isn't very bad, it does take a while to get your food but in the meantime just munch on chips and salsa and drink Dos Equis with limes and enjoy the time with your family and friends.

Great Food!
Rosa and her family had done a great job...20 years in the business and still going strong? Perfect. Yes is pricey but huge servings and the food is great. I have gone to "nice" restaurants with great service and "clean" but the food was far from regular...and were not cheap either. What makes Rosa's Plane Food so special is her great cooking and...yes, her daughters fights and disarray look...after all...doesn't this remind you of home? PS I give a 4 rating because there is always room for improvement...even the best businesses...and those anonymous if you don't like it why do you recommend dishes?

Mi novio me llevo a festejar el 14 de febrero a Rosa's y me sorprendio el ambiente con musica en vivo el muchacho que cantaba nos hizo reir mucho y tenia muy buena voz ibamos por un rato y nos quedamos horas, pedi el platillo de especial y me encantó la pasta fetuccini, y el steak enorme no pude terminarlo pero lo que me lleve al siguiente dia seguia como recien cocinado...Excelente....

Great Rib-Eye!
Rosa is great, We have known her for over 10 years now and we LOVE the food and the cold beer!
It is pricey, but worth the price and wait. Steaks are HUGE and delicious, never dry.
All of the seafood is fresh, and she gives very big portions in all of her plates.
And if she knows you, she gives you something to take home.
No restaurant in this border town will give you the quality of food served here (unfortunately)
You have to go at least once, then you will be hooked!

Shrimp Costa Azul: Jumbo shrimp wrapped in bacon and grilled, smothered in melted cheese. At $15.00 for a platter of 5 (including rice and beans), its a little pricy. Whatever the cost, treat yourself just once. One of her best dishes. Then again bacon wrapped around just about anything is pretty good!

esta dos dos
el ceviche esta bueno, pero esta caro, y se me hace caro por el tipo de lugar que es y que aparenta. simplemente creo que esta caro por las personas famosas que han ido ahi lo cual encuentro muy desagradable. las dos unicas veces que he ido, el servicio fatal y largas esperas, ademas sodas en bote....y no refill. la verdad prefiero hacer una hora de fila y pagar la misma cuenta en un restaurante de mejor calidad que este en Mexicali.. y por cierto el cocktel de camaron esta remalo... solo el ceviche esta bueno.

Ask for the special!
The food at Rosa's has gotten a little expensive, but if she she's you there a little more often, she cuts you a break on the price sometimes. A secret that not everyone knows about is her daily specials. She doesn't post them anywhere so if you don't ask, you'll never know. Carnitas is the most common special she has. In fact, she has it so often, it should just be a regular menu item. She also will have Chile Rellenos, Bistek Ranchero, albondigas, caldo de res, and other soups.

Great food...service sucks!
The food at Rosa's is great...but it is a bit pricey. If the place was cleaner with some fresh paint on the walls and decent waitresses (dress code & attitude) I wouldn't mind the price. I guess they know the service sucks so they add the tip to the price. One thing that might help is for the to serve the food all at once in a timely manner instead of bringing each person's plate every 15 minutes. By the time the last person gets their food the first person had been done for 10 minutes. If you plan to eat there make sure you have at least 1 1/2 hours to enjoy your food. And don't complain until after you get your food...you never know what the secret ingredient might be.

I love it,...
I only go once in a blue moon, but there is no better carne asada plate in Calexico, I guarantee. The Steak that Rosa brought out eclipsed my plate, the beans and rice were great, the tortillas freshly made. Now at 14 bucks a plate, I am not complaining. I had to take food home, that never happens. Great chips and salsa, ice ice cold beer from the buckets. Nope, can't complain about the music sometimes being a little loud, there should be no rush when you go to eat there. It's not fast food, its good food.

Great tacos and cold beer!
I was first introduced to Rosa's while working at the Vons down the hill a few years ago. Yes, the service isn't the best, but when you're coming off night crew what else are you going to wait for? Now I go on Saturday's and plan on spending some time there. Rosa has always been there and has always come over with hugs and kisses and has made small talk with us. The food there is great and even out beats La Fonda and El Zarape, which held up high on my list. Not much for atomsphere, but I'm there for the food!

NOT GOOD!
SERVICE IS AWFUL! THE FOOD IS DECENT AND, OH YES!, TOO EXPENSIVE. ONLY BEEN THERE ONCE AND WILL NEVER BE THERE AGAIN. THE ONE TIME I GAVE IT A TRY THE PLACE WAS PRETTY MUCH EMPTY AND THE WHOLE PLACE WAS A MESS (I.E. TALBES ALL DIRTY, PAPERS ALL OVER TABLES, CHAIRS OUT OF PLACE). MUSIC WAY TOO LOUD AND THE LIGHTS DID NOT WORK PORPERLY. I THOUGHT IT REALLY LOOKED LIKE A "CONGAL".

Food is second to none; service leaves much to be desired
The simple fact is you don't go to Rosa's for attentive or fast service. The long wait aside, it's worth the money and stands up to all the hype. As a lover of shrimp and seafood, I've sampled nearly every Mexican seafood joint in the Valley and find Rosa's to rule the roost. The ceviche is by far the best item on the menu and is unmatchable, only beaten by Laguna Azul in Mexicali.
The second best item is the filet, or cabreria. It's the most tender cut and most perfectly cooked piece of beef I've had in the Valley yet. It's a filet mignon cut lengthwise rather than the standard medallion. Not only do you get more than you would at places like Chinala Palace Steakhouse or the Town Pump, something price is significantly less for that dish.
Hell, even the Rosa's burger is better than anything on the Burgers and Beer menu.
Rosa's is not overrated. And yes, it can be a little pricey, but for a great meal once a week, it works just fine.

Completely Overpriced, Completely Overrated
The food here is decent but not worth the price.
It is a little inconvenient because you have to drive all the way to airport to get there, and the place doesn't seem very big either.
I've eaten here twice, and both times wanted my money back.
If they cut the prices in half, then it'd be worth it.
