|
|
When it comes to flying in Mexico, I'm clueless. I haven't done it since I was a little kid, so I never dealt with paying. I'm planning on going to Mexico City in June for a cousin's graduation and staying between 1-2 weeks.
The airline ticket prices seem to fluctuate throughout the week and are really expensive right now during Semana Santa. When I've checked the airline Web sites, I've gotten a range of prices in the past month, even as low as $16 USD (one way) with Aviacsa. I understand Aviacsa has deals on Tuesdays, although today is $300+ USD for a RT flight from Mexicali.
I do prefer to fly out of Mexicali, unless prices are way cheaper out of Tijuana.
Can someone decode the Mexican airline market for me? When and where is a good time to buy? Should I stick with online purchasing or just hit up an office in Mexicali for a deal?
Also: Mexicana vs. Aviacsa vs. Volaris vs...?
Thanks. |

I've used Lonely Planet for my other travels and I will do so again for this trip. I prefer to use a Frommer's or Rough Guide, as I like to mix it up with some low budget and mid-range budget traveling, then splurge a little here and there.
I'll check out flights for T and W too.
I need to practice my Spanish, so gracias. |

Has anyone taken an Avolar flight?
They are headquartered in Tijuana and have been around since 2005. They happen to have a direct flight to the city I'm going too, but their prices are kind of high at the moment (almost $400 RT). It's a new flight route, so hopefully they will have a promo in May. |

| Not too long I flew out of TJ and we bought the tickets directly from the airline. Buy on Tuesday as they have some promotions on that day only. |

That's pretty cool:
Avolar provides free transport from the border (San Ysidro) to the TJ airport via Crucero buses. You just have to show them the printed airline ticket voucher. |
