What is going on with the commercialization of La Linea?

Slowly, but surely, there have been new forms of advertising media placed for frustrated border crossers in their cars to stare at as they make their 1 hour queue.

Just last night they were working on the banner-type system that housed the old-tech LED marquee. There were welders emitting sparks that were landing on peoples' cars which still looked to be extremely hot and probably ended staining their paint jobs. On the side of the road seemed to be this huge panel which appeared to be a large high-tech digital display that was going to be placed up on top.

I also noticed a matrix of four flat panels setup as one display on the corner of La Casona which had some music video-like content being played for all to see. It seemed pretty cool, but the window pane effect was very annoying.

Some of the older forms of advertising that has cropped up of late are the transitioning billboards along the fence where pedestrians cross. These, I think, are actually pretty cool and undistracting and I would think to be the most effective, since I tend to look at them as I'm almost home free.

The other old screen along where the crosswalk used to be doesn't seem to be too effective towards me. It's just bright, flashy and annoying.

What are your thoughts on the new wave of advertising coming to La Linea and what can we expect next?

I'm still surprised an ad agency hasn't yet taken advantage of the street peddlers with having them wear advertising attire such as t-shirts and caps. Maybe Calecia.com should move in on this one.

Food and beverage companies should start giving out samples of their products in the line. What better way to engage with a captive audience in the middle of the summer?

A wireless Internet access company should provide free wireless (w/ ads) to mobile users in the line. This could allow for people to check the US border wait time Web site.
