Has anybody here gone or heard about San Carlos, Sonora from somebody that's been there? I try and visit 1 new place each year that I've never been to before, and a few years ago, maybe 5 I saw images of San Carlos in a novela, and I thought it was really pretty and relaxing there. I looked it up, and decided that this is the place I want to visit this year. Would like tips and recomendations if anybody's been there.

One place I've always wanted to visit is Real de Catorce, San Luis Potosi, Mexico -- the small Mexican town from the movie "The Mexican." The place looked awesome in the movie. Plus, the fact that you have to drive over a mile under a mountain to get to it really appeals to me.

Their approach to attracting tourism can't be beat, either: "En el pueblo no hay bancos, ni casas de cambio. El unico hotel que acepta tarjetas de credito es el Mesón de la Abundancia, sin dar servicio de cajero." My kind of place.

I was looking at some sites on Real de Catorce, SLP and it looks pretty cool, but only if you want to make a movie. I was reading that there isn't shit to do there. If you're into colonial towns such as myself, I recommend for you to visit Guanajuato, Gto, San Miguel de Allende, Gto, Patzcuaro, Mich, Morelia, Mich, or Zacatecas, Zac. These are gorgeous cities in which you can submerge yourself into colonial times. My favorite is Guanajuato, Gto, cause there's a bunch of places to visit (mines, mummies, dams, museums, plazas, bars etc...) There's this really cool bar, called Bar Luna, it's outdoors in front of Plaza Union, and beer (Indio is what they drink there) is 15 pesos, and the botana they had there was tacos dorados, caldo de mariscos, and sopes, all these were free, big change from the mexicali botana (lemons and peanuts).

One Saturday, after placing my bets at the Caliente in Mexicali, my buddy and me went to a bar (I can't remember the name), but it's next to the Caliente and has big wooden doors, that gave us birria, rice, and beans as snacks; we thought we might have accidently walked into a wedding reception. The food was really good, too.

Which Caliente? The one in the first street as you cross into mex or the one on reforma?

I had a friend who has been there. He said that the time to go is semana santa which I guess would be a no brainer for a Mexican beach town. He also told me that they have like a carnaval type thing for semana santa. his main plus was that it is mostly mexicans that go there

Have you been to Colonial Williamsburg? I've heard it is very colonial. If you go be sure to take lots of pics.
