How is this government control? If there's a product in the weight loss market that is readily available to consumers, but has a known risk of causing death, why should it continue to be sold?
Maybe it's not the ingredient/herb itself, but the combination of this and the chemicals added to the product? Or maybe they are just freak occurances? Regardless, the government has done the right thing by implementing a ban on the sale of these products. Whether it's because they really care or another pharmaceutical corporation has bribed someone, it's the right thing to do.
Overweight people are desperate for the miracle pill* which will "cure" obesity. If they are willing to risk dying to lose weight, then that is their decision, but it is the government's job to approve and regulate consumer products.
Now the FDA needs to ban the high prices on medication.

Ephedra is awesome I used it for contest prep and it helps a lot. Research the deaths reported while using ephedra. Most of these people were running around in the sun not drinking water. They died from a stroke, a heat stroke. If it's used as directed it is safe. Like everything else if you abuse it will hurt you. I have met people who admit to using twice the dose and they see nothing wrong with it. People are idiots.
I don'tt depend on it, but it's nice to have around.
I have read that the Government want to control everything that supplement companies puts out. And they were bitching about the dumbest supplements like creatine and andro. |

You're right. I haven't researched the deaths, that is why I made a few assumptions as to what their cause was. If ephedra is safe, then it shouldn't be banned, but then the FDA should require the product manufacturers to place warnings about their product regarding it's use in combination with other medications and/or activities.
If they have to print and wrap the warning around the container using the same shit they use for CDs, then so be it.

What do you think their reason behind this is? |

I took Ephedra for about two weeks, a few years back, and it felt like my heart was going to rip through my rib cage. I don't know about you, but it'd consider that a problem. |

It is suppose to increase your metabolism, which increases your heart rate. This helps you do the same amount of work and burn more calories.
So what you felt was normal. You're just weak minded. |

Ephedra. It was about time this shit was banned. This shit is lethal.
Once, I took some Rip Fuel that contain ephedra. I worked out for an hour and it really didn't improve my workout. After that we drove to Vegas. The next 5-7 hours were hell. I felt my heart pumping like a race horse. I couldn't stay still in my seat. My heart started calming down after I started pounding a couple of brews, but I wasn't right the whole night. That was the only and last time I used ephedra based products.
On another occasion my roomate was taking the same Rip Fuel. For days he kept complaining about chest pains and lack of breath. He continued taking the pills since he didn't think they were the cause of his complications. I kept telling him to stop taking the pills, but he wanted to lose weight. Basically, he stopped taking those pills when I took him to the ER during the middle of the night. He said he couldn't breathe, so I rushed him to the ER.
Other athletes have died while pounding ephedra, so in my opinion, what the fuck was the government thinking. This should have been done a long time ago. |

Lethal if used improperly. Some people are not cut out for it; especially, if you are sensitive to caffeine. I have taken ephedra for almost two years straight with a month off cycle in between and I was fine. |
