I'm gonna do some more research on the subject and, hopefully, organize another one of my fruitless expeditions.

Count me in. I always seem to be involved in fruitless expeditions.

Comb the desert!

We ain't found shit!

It's hard locating solid info on the subject, man. It'd make one hell of a field trip, though.

I'm assuming you found this reply regarding an inquiry on the vessel:

Re: The Pearl Ship of the Salton Sea

I was referring to the Viking longboat. But, I may wind up purchasing an aeronautical map of the valley to trace the sea level contour, in regards to the Linda Maria.

Holy crap, I've been trying to find information on this ship since 1989, that's when my friends and I came across a ships skeliton in the desert.
We were up in the hills digging in an old mine whe we saw it across the valley, so we went down there, and sure as sht, you can see the keel and some ribs.
This place is very tricky as it's on the Mexican side of the boarder and heavily patroled by both US and Mexican forces, been there many times since, but have only been down to the skeliton a few times.
It's 2 hours east of SD and 3 hrs SE of Jacumba and then another 2-3 hrs hike into the mountains.
Does anyone else have any references to the history of that area?

This post without pics is completely useless. How could one not take pictures of an anomaly such as a ship in the desert? Of course, there's a chance you didn't have a camera.

If you speak the truth and go on a hike again, pictures will be greatly appreciated.

All that I know of this ship is from the links I have included in previous posts.

Im' planning on going down to San Diego this summer for a visit, I currently live in the NW.
I agree, pictures would be nice, but all they would show is what appears to be some over sized rail road ties laying around with some river rocks in between covered by sand and scrub brush. and only some are visable, no mast, no hull.
Since this is well into the Mex territory I don't think a tourist can get away spending too much time there, The Mex don't give a hoot about human rights and would shoot you for the hell of it or haul you off.
You sound like your from that area, just take a hike up in the hills to the southeast of the old Jacumba airstrip for about 6.5 miles, see what you find.
Happy hunting

Thanks for the directions.

If someone doesn't beat us to it, we'll be filthy rich come next week.

If you have been looking for references to the lost ship online
you have to have come across some of my posts on this subject elsewhere.
the best collection of online stories are found at
the harry oliver -desert rat web site.
look for ship links at
http://www.klaxo.net/hofc/hofc.htm

I am a collector of ship of the desert stories.
I collect both "True ship sightings" and fictional versions of this story.

you mentioned you wanted a little history.
I have also been working on a background history about the stories starting with the 1620 apocryphal spanish story about a flood carrying a ship through the straits of anian
(california was showing up in maps as an island that year
and the gates of Anain aka the northwest passage linking the pacific to the alantic were thought to have a southern entrance at the head of the gulf of california.)

also a writer I know is getting ready to publish a magazine story in June
and she is looking to interview people who have seen the ship(s) and those who have searched for it (them).

i say it (them) because there could be more than one.
it is known for certain that the First Steam ship to explore the colorado river is now out in the desert and this may well be the ship being sighted below the border.
anyway hi and hello to you all.
