Larry steals the ball, passes it to DJ.
1987 NBA finals. 106-105 Boston up. The Boston Garden in absolute euphoria. 8 seconds left, ball inbounded to Magic, and he drains a running baby hook over McHale and Parrish to win the game.
Joe Cool spoting John Candy before embarking on a Super Bowl 2 minute drive.
Mike Tyson decking Michael Sphinks in mattter of seconds.
Kirk Gibson facing Dennis Eckersley. Bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, 4-3 Okaland up, runner on first, and home run Kirk Gibson. Seeing Kirk Gibson rounding 2nd was pure ecstacy and I hated the Dodgers. Though I was a fan of Fernandomania.
One of my most memorable childhood stories is going to Dodger stadium, having a Dodger Dog, catching a HR from Pedro Guerrero, and watching the man, the legend, el toro, Fernando Valenzuela. That's what sports were about. It was about Charlie Hustle. Amputating the tip of your pinky finger in order to play in the NFC playoffs. It was about sweat, desire, passion, and heart. Some of the things that todays athletes have long lost. Yes, there are a few left. The Brett Favre's, Steve McNair's, Timmy Duncan's, recently retired Tony Gwyns's and Barry Sander's of the world, but they are a dieing breed.
Athletes today are more like Allen Iverson. Practice? Practice! Man, it's only practice. The NBA season is luke warm at best. Its easy to spot that they don't care. It's all about the 20's, shoe contracts, and making rap albums. Me, me, me. In the NFL athletes can't wait for their next contract instead of worrying about next weeks opponent. And major league baseball. They actually take days off. Yes, its 162 game season, but you make 12 million and you still have to take a game day off. What you were too tired from last nights 3 hour game? You cut your tongue eating too many sun flowers seeds?
Pro sports today have left a disenchanted taste in my mouth. Some of you know that I have placed a self-imposed ban on the Niners this year. I'm still a fan, huge fan, but sports today don't carry the same value they used to have. I still watch Pro Sports to catch some memorable performances, but I rather catch the highlights on ESPN. Yes, its still cool watching the Spurs-Lakers at a friends house, but the next day one of those team will lose to an Eastern Conference team. Its dishearting. I know I've changed over the years, but its today athletes that I can't stand. If this is true then where are sports going to be like in 3, 5, 8 years down the road. For every Larry Fitzgerald there's 200 Kellen Winslow's that are ready to enter the league. I guess I'll have to pick up reading. |

The Lakers suck major ass. But nothing has come close to that rivalry. I totally agree.
Since when are western conference teams losing to eastern conference teams??? the east has been on the shit end of the stick for years now.
I think one of the things that's different is obviously the disgusting amount of money they make, coupled with endorsement deals, etc. Not to mention the fact that a lot of the best players also happen to have record deals/rap albums. They just don't have the class of a Larry Bird, Kareem Abudl Jabbar, or Joe Montana. It's almost like you can't feel their passion for the game, so you start to lose yours too. And even amongst the players whether they're on the same or opposing team. No respect. Buncha cry-babies. It's hard to look up to them as heroes... pro sports have become quite ghettoized.
Go Kings! |

I think you nailed it. They don't put any passion into the game, so why should I. I can live with that.
Ghettoized = Keepin' it real.
Mof, I have lost some of my passion for pro sports, but one thing I haven't lost is the art of talking shit. The Kings! Oh my lord. Flop. Hey, when you get C-Web back just don't ask him to call a timeout. |

| I think money has done this to sports. I find the 200 and something million dollars that the Rangers paid to Alex Rodriguez trully ridiculous. A very famous sports quote says "amor por la camisa", and no one seems to have that these days, it's more for the love of the benjamins. A teacher I had did the math and figured that for him to make what Alex Rordiguez makes in 1 year, he would have to work over 200 and something years. |

ghettoized hardly means keeping it real dude. most pro sports players are definitely not keeping it real. i meant more that everything about pro sports seems to be seriously materialistic in a cheesy, trashy kind of way. pro sports are supposed to be about talent, blood, sweat and tears. not gold, diamonds and Hummers.
The Kings have heart and lots of talent and I don't want to deal with narcissistic babies like Kobe, Shaq and Phil Jackson. |

Again, atheletes like Allen I try to keep it real. The Hood mentality. Don't get Bryant Gumble on me. Get paid, but don't forget your roots, playa.
They may have heart, but they can't shoot free throws (Game 7 Conference Finals). Plus, the Kings have the weakest big man in the league in C-Web. No heart. Oh, look an open 20 footer. I'll settle. Got no heart in crunch time. Flop. |

C. Web has broken my heart many a time but he is NOT the weakest big man in the league by any stretch of the imagination. And given the demise of my beloved Knicks, my eternal hatred for the Lakers, and the YAWWWWWWWWWNNNNNN Spurs , the Kings are really the only cool pick. They've got edge and the best fans in the league. But again, I seem to be drawn to teams (and men) who disappoint me. I haven't rooted for a winning team since the Pistons and Rodman/Laimbeer/Thomas.
So Go Kings!!!! |

1989. That's a long time. Let's go back to more recent times. 1994 and John Starks going 1-17 from the field in Game 7 of the Finals. Poor Knicks. They suck and will continue to suck. There only hope is to get Kobe this summer. Then you can buy that Kobe jersey you always dreamed of.
Why are Kings fans the greatest? Look, taking cow bells to a game doesn't make you the greatest fans on the planet. Try going to Indian-er. Those fools eat, shit, and breathe b-ball.
Edge? What they got a couple of euro's? Vlade and Pedja give them edge. Unless you mean edge since they lost year in and year out.
Yes, C-Web is the weakest big men in the league. He's got skills to post any big men in the league and take it to the rack at will. Instead he settles for 20 footers. That my friend is weak. If that doesn't prove it then you can check out this take. He's so weak that in crunch time he rather give the ball up too M.Bibby or Pedja. He had a killer instinct as a Fab-Five member, but lost it when he got paid.
What's funny about C-Web is that he grew up in the suburbs of Michigan, but whats the street cred that Jalen Rose gets. Sorry C-Web you got no street cred. |

I don't know what the fuck street cred has to do with playing good basketball...
Poor Knicks is right. But one of my all time favorite basketball memories are the 1998 finals with Miami where Van Gundy grabbed on the leg of a Heat player and got dragged around like a rag doll. that series was intense even if it did break my heart.
everybody can talk shit about basketball teams they aren't fans of. doesn't mean it's true. |

Oh, if its comes out of my fingertips then its true. You're just going to have to accept that. One of lifes things. What can I say.
That game your talking about was a classic. The whole best of 5 series that year was money. I still can't believe that Allen Houston made that shot to beat the Heat. Still that was the year that the Knicks got every damn call in the book. Games 1 in the NBA finals against the Spurs has to be the worst biased game of all-time. I was disgusted by the officiating. Pro Knicks. Just Horrible.
Street cred is very important to athletes. All athlete wants it. If you have it then your 'in'. Look at Lebron James. The guy has street cred, so look at his Nike deals, and number one pick. Why? Because he has street cred. Trust me its very important. Thats why Kobe tried to be a rapper when he was in Phily (high school). Street cred comes from black athletes who grew up in the 'burbs and want to 'keep it real'. Even white athletes want it. It gives you rub and pub. |
