'Master' and 'slave' computer labels unacceptable, officials

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Los Angeles officials have asked that manufacturers, suppliers and contractors stop using the terms "master" and "slave" on computer equipment, saying such terms are unacceptable and offensive.

My computer has a 60 GB hard drive configured as the master, while the slave is only 8 GB. If the slave was capable of handling the storage of all my valuable data, then I could see it taking over as the master.

The slave currently contains an installation of a Linux distribution.

Slavery is alive and well in the computing industry.
