Sat eve was double header movie= then Sunday two new movies KENO usually was Thursday evening and remember the AZTEC Theatre current Sam Ellis shoe store. Does anyone remember when there was nothing around Jefferson School? There was only fields and occasionally there was cows and sheep. Some people claim that "la llorona" came from that side of town.
Does anyone remember when there was two hot dog stands? The other one was at the corner of Second and Heffernan. Across from Jayvee store.
Also through Heffernan was a "Taxi Telephone" right next to a bulletin board.
Thrifty store was where the Floreria store is right now, next to JCpenney and that big parking lot next to it was a Chevrolet dealer car lot and Cornet was across the street.
Has anyone mentioned Big Star? It was California Market back in the day.
Anyone remembers the milk man in his green beetle truck?
remember playing a two stick game called "shangai"?
And last, does anyone remember when there was an infestation of frogs and something that looked like lobsters on the east side (Ghost town)?
Of course, I was VERY young with a good memory. |

My Grandfather used to own a market on First Street, right in front of the port of entry. He used to sell eggs to the Arellano family, who owned California Market back then. Missy, you have a spectacular memory! |
