Web-based pop up advertisements have been a problem when browsing the majority of Web sites for quite some time now. There have been ways of stopping them using free utilities such as the Google Toolbar or EMS Free Surfer mk II, but never really any built-in support for the world's most popular Web browser, Internet Explorer. This isn't a problem if you've been using one of the latest releases of the Mozilla or Netscape Web browser.
But this is about to change. Microsoft has announced that they will have built-in support for pop up ad blocking with their next service pack (SP2) of Internet Explorer. With the adoption of these features now available on all the major Web browsers, look to see a decrease in the production for this method of advertising.
What can we expect to see next from advertising companies? The adoption of full screen advertisements that will give you no other option than to view them or to physically look away. |
