I drove through downtown Calexico this morning and see that Calexico is putting in palm trees and some patterned crosswalks at the intersections. I also noticed that at each of these sites their was a sign that reads "Downtown Revitalization Project".
Why are they wasting money on these types of projects? The best way to "revitalize" downtown Calexico would be to bring in some decent stores and restaurants to the area.

I think it's a ridiculous idea, spearheaded by clueless, out of touch dolts who don't have the common sense or foresight to do what is best for the City of Calexico.
Clearly, not one single council member took the time to consider the embarrassing failure that was the El Centro's Main Street revitalization project. |

Exactly. What the city...hell, what the Valley needs to start doing to get more revenue is to stop paying big corporations to come in, and to stop giving those corporations concessions that actually cost the cities more money than what these businesses bring in by the time they close shop and leave their buildings empty. |

I think the idea of renovating is a good one. Are these people doing it right? Of course not.
Downtown in Calexico looks like shit, and no decent business is gonna want to open up there. If I wanted to open up a business I wouldn't want to do it there. It looks like shit.
I think it would be a good idea to renovate the shoppers. |

I think it's a good idea.
Regardless of the quality of stores that occupy the downtown area, it needs to look good. In the past, it's been a filthy location... a little brother to downtown Mexicali. The streets are littered with trash and the pedestrians continuously use the crosswalks with disregard for vehicles crossing the intersections.
The red stoned crosswalks and palm trees in each corner are a nice touch, but without the proper and diligent maintenance they will end up looking filthy as well. Hopefully this is not all they have planned to spruce up the shopping area.
I think a great idea would be to convert downtown to an authentic China Town. We already have the stores in place. |

Good idea.
I just don't want to see any arches or totally fixing up old worthless buildings. Just paint the outside walls or force business to fork over some cash to paint their buildings. Seriously, painting a wall or two will cost someone like 40 dollars in paint. Hire those 'peanuts' donations crack addicts (born again) cholos and whoola you got a beautiful painted downtown area.
All I know is that the downtown are is looking a lot better. A couple of years ago it looked like shit. The streets were dirty and scummy. I just hope that local politicians can keep the downtown area looking good for years to come without having the local tax payer to carry the burden. |

| how about getting rid of all the gas stations on Imperial avenue and plant some trees there??(just leave the cheapest one) also sending the New River through a pipe would improve the smell... ahh, and racall Gumby for spending the budget on the Mariachi Fest. |

Did anyone notice that the fountain inbetween K-Mart and Peso Co. now has running water and is illuminated at night?
This town is finally moving forward... seriously. |
