I recently saw this movie and was very disappointed. This movie wasn't that cool as all the hype made it out to be. The main reason, i think this movie was hyped because for mexico this "new" film real life. But in if this movie would be made in the US it'd be another crappy indy flick.
Now Amores Perros is a cool movie in any language. |

I know I'm probably showing my ignorance, but none of these movies appeal to me. Maybe it's just me, but ever since they hyped "Like water, For Chocolate" I don't trust reviews that say these new/edgy Mexican movies are great, anymore. I mean, that movie was "steamy", cause it was a hot pile of crap.
Then you see all these "Mexican-American" movies right now that depict Mexican-American families in a certain way. I don't think the producers, who I believe are Mexican themselves, realise that Mexicans are not Puerto Ricans and we don't live in New York City. Every person, other than the nana-who says "Dios Mio" and "Ay, Dios" for everything, looks, talks and acts like a black person.
You can't see a "Mexican" movie without Edward James Olmos either acting, directing or producing. Hey, "Stand and Deliver" was a great movie, but how much of this guy can people take. He and Cheech aren't the only two Mexicans who will do a movie.
Then you have this new one that's about a chubby Mexican girl who tells her "Stupid, Old-fashioned" mother about the sex she has and she gets all the fat ladies at the sweat-shop she works at to take off all their clothes, to appreciate how "beautiful" they are.
The only movie that has come close to showing some Mexican reality was Traffic, during the Tijuana segments. Why can't they make any epic Mexican movies, like Godfather. You know there are some great stories just waiting to be told. |

El Mariachi by Robert Rodriguez, which I'm sure everyone's seen, is a great Mexican movie and it was made under $10,000. Scenes like the one-man mariachi and characters like Moco make this film an instant classic.
Why can't they make anymore great films like this for such a low budget? |

All those movies are nothing more than a fad. They are only good because they did something new or something "special."
You want the greatest mexican flic of all time. Go to the nearest video store and try to find, "Los Caguamas Ninjas." That movie will change your life. There's nothing special about that movie. It's just an all around great movie. It's got a great plot, actors, screen-play, everything.
Check it out. |

| Is that the one with Lawrence Olivier or Corey Feldman? I always get those two great actors mixed up. |

Well, it actually stars Olivier and Hepburn.
Do you see why it's so great? |

I remember renting it from Pocho's Video next to Garcia Market years ago. This movie IS good.
You can get more info and even order* it here:

* I actually wouldn't order it from here since the Web site doesn't have a security certificate. |

it was a good movie, but seriously, does anybody really find it hard to be afraid of a guy named "Moco"? |
