Just when I thought we were done with the basics of tipping discussion, I realized that we never touched the subject of tipping in Mexico. Where in the United States tipping is expected, in Mexico it appears to be a issue that doesn't get much attention.
I've heard and read that the tipping percentage in Mexico is 10%, while in the US it starts at 15%. Regardless, I would say that you are still expected to tip the server at a restaurant. Usually I tip equally.
But what about other uncommon services such as a musician who plays at your table or the little boy who bags/carries your groceries at a market (e.g. - Ley, Gigante)? What about the street peddler at La Linea who washes your windows or even your entire car?
It's obvious that everywhere you go, no matter what country you're in, you are expected to fork over a little extra cash. But how much is that? |
