I'm considering getting DSL. But I'm not sure what package to pick. I was wondering if I pick a standard package 384kps-1.5kps :

What is the average speed?

What is the slowest you get? ( I know 384, but on average of the slowest)

I want to make sure if I pick this package that it wont be a dissapointment.

I've had the Standard Plus Package for over 8 months now and my downstream speed has been a consistent 1.2 Mbps (Upstream is consistently 128 Kbps.)

Same here. Pretty consistent transfer rates, so there really isn't a need to purchase the package which guarantees a 768 Kbps downstream.

Standard Plus Package is the best deal available right now with SBC. I don't understand why anyone would opt for the Basic Package when it's the same price. Maybe they don't like their downloads to be that fast?

BTW, if you're going to order online, be a pal and use the following link*.

* Yes people, this is a new low in Calecia.com history, but times are tough.

Is the modem free. What is better to get? The basic $99 packagewith credit or the $149 w/ $99 rebate?

Standard Plus Package. It's the same price as the Basic Package, but with a higher transfer rate for downstreams (downloads).

If you have a desktop computer, and not a laptop, then go for the free DSL modem. Otherwise, go for the wireless option.

SBC just recently cut their prices on their DSL subscriptions for first time subscribers. Pricing is down from $29.95 to $26.95, a savings of $3 a month ($36 a year).

This is in retaliation to cable companies offering their broadband Internet services at lower prices when purchased as part of a bundle including other consumer services.

The only catch? You've got to place your order online.
