WASHINGTON (AP) - The House on Thursday approved a 2.2 percent pay raise for Congress - slightly less than average wage increases in private business but enough to boost lawmakers' annual salaries to about $158,000 next year.

The House members decided to allow themselves a fifth straight cost-of-living raise after rejecting them for several years during the 1990s.

Cost-of-living raise?!?!?! Isn't a cost-of-living wage for people that don't make enough money for the area they live in?

Wait a fucking minute. Didn't Bush just deny federal employees a raise (or cut it by half, or something) on the grounds that it would crumble the federal government's budget?

Once again, the peons gets screwed while the lords make off like bandits.

Yep...Bush requested that "civilian pay raises be held down", but the House conveniently ignored the request at around the same time that they gave themselves the raise.

The economy is in the toilet right now. But it's good to hear that they are going good. I see one place where the budget can be cut. I think that a 25% pay cut is in order for congressman.
