Imperial County is the latest region to be hit by the deadly West Nile virus, announced state and county public health officials Wednesday.
"It was inevitable. We knew it was traveling cross-country from east to west, so it was only a matter of time," said county public information officer Maria L. Peinado.
On Tuesday the California Department of Health Services laboratory confirmed the presence of WNV in a mosquito pool found recently at the southern end of the Salton Sea.
