This is kind of old news, but I'm mostly curious as to why Intel Corp. has code-named their new wireless chipset Calexico. Is it because of the City of Calexico or the band Calexico?
Here's a link and a snippet:

| Banias also will include a new Intel chipset, code-named Calexico. Christensen says the chipset will feature the latest wireless technology. When it rolls out Calexico, Intel will for the first time offer its own 802.11 chips. |

It's probably because the CEO of Intel is married to this lady from Calexico.

That's strange... I don't think I've ever seen her around town.

Not that anyone cares, but I think that the code name was derived from the city of Calexico. Intel has a 64-bit microprocessor code namd Merced, which is another city in California.
Intel also has a newer version of the Centrino chip which is code named Calexico 2.

The previous 802.11b Centrino used technology from Texas Instruments and Philips. |
Now I just want to know why they chose the city of Calexico, instead of the city of El Centro.
El Centro, Centrino... makes sense to me. |

At the risk of killing this thread, because "Calecia is a beautiful thing." |
