If you've walked through downtown Calexico, you may have noticed the signs outside of Calexico Stationers that say, "Going Out of Business."
I have to admit, even though I haven't bought a single thing from this place in like two years, I think it's sad it's going out of business.
It's a landmark in Calexico. |

They were actually going to close the store a few years back but customers begged them not to close and apparently they didn't. At the time the owner said that even though they were closing the store they were going to keep Calexico Stationers in business on the internet. I don't know if they're still planning to do that or not. |

Stationers would still be around if they wouldn't have been charging $1 for a pencil way back when. Obviously once Wal-Mart came in that changed, but it was now a little too late.
Stationers was where the cool kids bought their school supplies. |

I went in there to buy a protractor a couple of months ago. They had a bunch of them in a box. They were all inside very dusty plastic jackets and varied in size and features. I decided to get the most simple-looking one, but the old faded price tag read: $7.95. Fucking incredible! So I picked up a much fancier one and the yellowed price tag read: $.87. I asked the old lady to shed some light on the subject and she basically did not know what the fuck was going on. No wonder that place is closing. |
