According to research good-looking people get higher raises than unattractive people. Now you know why you only got a 25-cent raise.
I'll tell you what, though...I'd hate to be one of the lesser paid teachers at the University of Texas after that study. I bet those teachers are comparing their paychecks every payday now. |

When I was working in Phoenix, they actually started me a dollar above what I was told at the interview I would be getting. Then when I started my new job here in El Centro, I was told that I would be working from 8-4 with an hour lunch and get paid for 7 hours a day, but by my second check I was being paid for 8 hours a day (even though I was still coming in at 8 and leaving at 4...and still taking an hour lunch).
I must really be good-looking.

Sometimes the payroll department/service is too lazy to make any corrections, so the employee ends up winning. I once received an extra 10 hours of overtime because the payroll employee added a one before the actual amount. Their too lazy to pay attention.
When it's in your favor, you keep your mouth shut, but when it's in their's... all hell breaks loose. |
