The demise of civilization has been predicted since it began, but the odds of keeping Planet Earth alive and well are getting worse amid a breakneck pace of scientific advances, according to Martin Rees, Britain's honorary astronomer royal.
Rees calculates that the odds of an apocalyptic disaster striking Earth have risen to about 50 percent from 20 percent a hundred years ago. |

I believe the world with end with the eminent eruption of the Popocatepetl Volcano in Mexico.
According to recent reports, its eruption will be so devastating to our atmosphere and ecology that life as we know it will cease to exist.
Why a volcano, and not an asteroid, or even nukes? Because it doesn't care about peace treaties, terrorism, or who'll end up playing who in the Super Bowl. It laughs in the faces of Bruce Willis and Superman. It knows we can't hide from it in Antarctica, and it sure as hell understands that we don't have the technical capabilities to leave this planet just yet. Popocatepetl owns us. We are its bitches, and there is nothing we can do to change that. |
