So for some time now the idea of a charter school has been thrown around here and there in the community. It wasn't until recently though that anyone took this seriously and finally took it up to the Calecia unifed school district board for review and approval, unfortunatley it got shot down, those bastards! Anyways, I think that not only Calecia but the imperial valley would benefit from such a school. As far as i know, the people involved who want the charter school are trying to fight back... what y'all think about the situation?

I don't really know how charter schools work, but if they're independent schools (which is what I thought), why does a charter school need permission from the Calexico Unified School District? I think they should put it on a ballot and leave it up to the voters.

this site has a shitload of info on charterschools

http://www.uscharterschools.org/

apparently, a charter school is still part of the local school district but they don't respond to the board or a union or anything like that, just to the govt and the standards they set for the school. So, since the school is part of the school district, then the federal money that the district gets has to be divided among everyone.... including the charter school. That's why the district board needs to approve it. There was an article on the ivp yesterday talking about this... either way, the thing i thought was nice about a charter school was that teachers are no longer immune. No more unions, or 3 strikes, or all that shit. If they fuck up they get fired.

That's the way it should be.

And that's why a charter school will never be approved in the Valley.
