I tend to agree with dead metaphor. Radio in the Valley is what you make it. The commercial stations are terrible, but the public stations really serve a wide audience. I have a show on KUBO on Tuesdays from 8 to 10 p.m., and while I play metal and punk, I love listening to wide variety on the other local shows, such as Bloodhound on Sunday afternoons.

Here's the problem. My field is in no way related to radio. I am not in the know. So what stations do I know about? The commercial ones. I don't have the time to scan through every single station every day at various hours. I'm just not in my car that long. I'm sure there are some pretty good shows out there, just like you guys mentioned. Do I know about them? No. Would I if someone else didn't recommend them? Probably not.

I like talk radio, so the host of the show is a big deal for me. If I don't like the host, it's really hard for me to enjoy the songs he plays. I've listened to 88.7 a few times, and I've got to be honest. Most of the hosts on that station are horrible. As are many of the other local hosts in the Valley. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing on the Valley. I'm sure there are plenty of talented DJ's here who just can't get a break, but in this little part of the world, the hosts of these shows are usually the station manager's friend or nephew/niece or somehow affiliated, and not qualified, to the station manager.

Honestly, you guys already recommended some stations, and I appreciate that. I'll try to check them out. But if you can recommend any more, I would appreciate that too.

I understand that you don't get to hear the everyday MTV select alternative music on the radio, but that doesn't mean that Radio sucks in the valley.

You ever heard of two little radio stations called Q96 and 98.3? That's all they play. MTV. Maybe not all alternative music. But MTV music nonetheless.

I don't think too many people on this board actually watch MTV, so that's not the complaint. The complaint is the lack of variety.

You've got the two stations, previously mentioned, that try to appeal to younger audiences, a lot of banda, "clubbing," and maybe an oldie or two station. That stuff is in no way appealing to me, and apparently others as well.

And yes 88.7, public, playing "underground" music that is at least 10 years old. Come on, let's face it, everybody who likes that kind of music has already heard all these bands a thousand times over. Play something else. You want a radio show? Go the extra mile and look for some talent. Don't just go by what has already been tested and true. I can go through revramrod's old tape collection if I want to listen to those bands.*

*By the way, along with "revramrod's DVD Rental Hut," you can now also purchase at "revramrod's Vintage Tape Collection."

hi, this is my first post. i'm megan. i have a radio show on kubo 88.7 thursdays from 6-8pm. i think i play a good variety of music. indie-rock, some punk, some jazz, some blues, some rock'nroll.

i'm glad kubo is on the air right now. sometimes there are good shows. and it is an alternative to the top40 and "rock" stations that play semi-crappy or horribly crappy music.

so listen to my show if you want. good times.

Radiodude,
Here's some constructive criticism for you:

Record your radio show onto tape and listen to it before you go mee-mee. The next week that your show is on, remember not to do anything you did on last week's show.

That was way to much work just to say his show sucks. The sad part is he will probably think it's a compliment.

Don't you get it? He's merely trying to finagle us into listening to his radio show which airs Wednesdays at 8:00 PM on KUBO 88.7 FM.
