Instead of spending your money to make Columbia House selections play out of your car stereo, buy a CD changer and burn your own CDs.

Here's a sample playlist from one of their stations:

Korn
Alone I Break

Powerman 5000
Mega! Kung Fu Radio

Disturbed
Prayer

Staind
For You

Saliva
Always

Chevelle
The Red

Limp Bizkit
Rearranged

Stone Sour
Bother

Rob Zombie
Demon Speeding

P.O.D
Youth of a Nation

Papa Roach
Time and Time Again

It looks like we have no option but to be our own deejays.

Wow. Xm Radio sounds even better now. I dont have any of those sounds so 10 buck a month plus equiptment sound pretty good.

Hello there everyone,

I understand that you don't get to hear the everyday MTV select alternative music on the radio, but that doesn't mean that Radio sucks in the valley.

Take a closer look at FM 88.7 (KUBO, Radio Bilingue), for example. Yes, they have a mariachi show, and a Banda one too, and a talk show in spanish, but has anyone stopped to listen to the great Reggae show that they transmit from Fresno? How about the ones that dig the hip hop, there is the Goodfellaz. They have an excellent selection, tune in every now and then and give it a try... (don't always tune in at the same time).

How about Radio Universidad (FM 104.1, UABC)? They do have the obnoxious barroque music hour and the seemingly endless classical show. But has everyone listen to the Opera Rock show, or did anyone else notice that just last friday, for example, they had a whole 12 hours of local rock from Baja California?

How about the Morning show "Los Torpedos" on W FM (90.7) for all the spanish speakers? In my opinion, it is just as funny as the world famous "Kevin and Bean". And what about the "Alterlatino" show, which is great by the way? (I have to agree that Monica Roman tends to talk alot and can get obnoxious as a DJ, and that she tends to succumb to the power of MTV, and that W FM is owned by the largest Media corporation in Mexico, but it is worth a try...).

I believe that those who say that Radio isn't good in the valley, need to stop watching TV and start listening all over again, so that they can judge a little better...

I tend to agree with dead metaphor. Radio in the Valley is what you make it. The commercial stations are terrible, but the public stations really serve a wide audience. I have a show on KUBO on Tuesdays from 8 to 10 p.m., and while I play metal and punk, I love listening to wide variety on the other local shows, such as Bloodhound on Sunday afternoons. Where else are you going to here Social Distortion alongside the Old 97's, and so on.
As for UABC's station, I also agree they go a little overboard with the classical, but every once in a while I catch the bebop jazz show and am blown away to hear Charlie Parker, John Coltrane and Miles Davis, and others, on a local station.
