I bought GTA a while back and I haven't been able to play it. When I try it works fine for about 10 seconds and then it slows down to about 2 frames per second. I can't play it at all it's slow as hell.
I have AMD Athlon 1700+; 768MB DDR; 32mb TNT Video card; 5.1 sound blaster: 52x Cdrom; Windows 98.
I already bought a sound card becasue some one told me it might be it. I down loaded the latest driver for her graphic card. I'm thinking it might be the OS. I called the company and they told me I could send it back to them and for about 20 dollars I can get a new one. But Dammit I already paid 50-60 bucks for the damn game.
Can anyone help me here?

I installed GTA3 on my low end machine (950 MHz Athlon, 512 PC133 RAM, GeForce 2 MX 32 MB, Sound Blaster Live!, Windows XP) and it ran like a champ.

Your OS should be OK, though your video card is the weak link in the chain (but not enough to cause the problem you described.)

Does it slow down like that during the initial cut-scene, or when you finally hop behind the wheel of the car on the bridge at the beginning of the game?

Or, are you talking about GTA: Vice City?

GTA3. someimes I make to the car but before I get off the bridge it slows down. Sometimes I can't get into the car before it slows down on me. Could it be the game itself?
I burned a copy for a freind and it worked fine on his PC. I even tried the CDR game on mine and the samething happened. I uninstalled and reinstalled it several times now.

Try dropping your graphic settings down to CGA. SVGA is way over-rated.

Try borrowing your friend's or someone else's video card (preferably, something better than what you currently have) and see if that makes a difference.

It's strange, though. Your system should handle the game fine. Have you tried bringing the audio and video quality down a bit? It so, does it make a difference?

PS2, yeah right!
Resources are fine, but I have noticed that my computer does go through RAM pretty quick. I have it on and after a short while it's down to half.

You're not the type of person who has numerous programs (agents, services, etc.) automatically starting up and running throughout your entire session, are you? If you are, then you might have one of those applications hogging up your resources. Try disabling them all or one by one and try loading up GTA3. Also disable Active Desktop if it's enabled (it's worth a try).

If not, then you'll need to provide a little more information regarding your system. What version of your display adapter drivers and DirectX do you have? Are you running Windows 98 SE with all the latest updates? Do you do normal PC maintenance such as disk defragmentation, virus detection, etc.?

I can see this Web site expanding and adding a Calecia.com Support area.

I turned off the background programs. I don't like having them on and besides my PC boots up faster with less programs on.

I've already downloaded the lastest version on all my drivers including the mother board. What exactly do you need to know?
