I woke up this Saturday morning feeling like not doing a single thing and not interacting with a single soul. The first couple hours were great. I got to watch a little TV and play a couple games on my PC. There were a few annoyances like the game crashing everytime I went to a different level and when I realized I had to do some laundry, but overall it was turning out to be a pretty relaxing day... until I heard a knock on the door.

I was simply going to ignore it, but realized that I had the television volume high enough to where you could probably hear it from the outside. So I decided to blindly (not having a peephole) open the door.

To my surprise it was a couple. An older gentlemen and a young male teenager, both well dressed and carrying briefcases. I instantly knew who they represented and what their goal was. I was in a groggy state and before I could do anything about my situtation, they began their spiel.

The younger one began with asking me a question regarding drugs and the damage it's causing the youth. It was simply a yes or no response and I said I didn't know and that I didn't have anytime for this. He kind of opened his eyes and offerred to "give" me a copy of their pamphlet/newsletter/comic book (whatever it is). I told him I wasn't interested and that I had to go, so the older man stepped in and tried to take over the conversion. He realized he wasn't going to get me to talk or even listen, so he excused themselves and went off to the next abode. They must of thought I was evil.

It had been a while since anyone else besides the kids in schools selling candies knocked on my door, so I wasn't really prepared. I'm hoping this doesn't happen again, though I'm sure it will. So I ask... what are some of your tips and tricks for avoiding unsolicited visitors?

I know it's easy to just not open the door or tell them to go away, but there must be some other proven techniques that always work. If you don't have any suggestions, then how about sharing some of your experiences and how you handled the situation.

I usually open the door with no pants, so they can see the satanic tattoo I have on my enlarged left nut.

There ain't much you can do if you open the door. All you can do is what you did. I usually don't open the door, even if they see me through the window.

It may seem like an eternity, but really its only about 2 minutes of your time. Still, the first thing that pops into my mind when I see them is 'Fuck'.

J.W's usually are harder to get rid off, but I simply tell them that I'm familiar with their religion and that right now I'm weighing my options. They usually bite and leave me alone.

Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are easier to fend off. I just tell them that I'm familiar with the Book of Mormon, and that currently I'm just in limbo. They leave very quickly.

One thing that I've come to realize is that no one wants to hear about religion. Not even the J. W.'s or mormons that come to your house. I have a lot of friends that are J.W.'s amd Mormons, and they've told me they only do it because they have to.

One thing that I've tried that works is to break out a Catholic bible and try to tell them about it. But be careful, once or twice I've tried this and gotten some fanatics, when this is the case, things only get worse. Most of the time, it does work though.

I think J.W.'s feel the resentment from the community, but they still go out there to spread their faith.

Mormons on the other hand (the true ones) do want to go on their missions. I mean they have to give up two years of their life to go on these missions and they do it. Some come to Calexico, others go to Latin America.

If you really didn't want to go, I feel that most of them wouldn't just take off for two years.

Still, family and religion are very powerful entities to overcome.
