I was gonna go to Vons today to do some gocery shopping and I decided to go to Sol instead. I thought to myself, "Self, it's closer and you'll be contributing to the local economy. F corporations."
Then I got to Sol and was surrounded by assholes. Man these people are assholes. Not just Sol, but most of the small business' in this Valley. Sol, Perrone's, California, you name it.
Not too long ago I went to Vons and when I was at the checkout I remembered I had forgotten something. I said to myself, "Damn, I forgot the Brie." The cashier then said, "Oh, you need Brie?" And sent the bag boy to go get it. I thought, damn that's good service.
The other day at Sol I asked where the maiz tortillas were at, and they just said, "Over there in the back," without even looking at me.
I've decided to not go to locally owned grocery stores because even though it might be cheaper to shop at Sol, etc, the selection, quality, and service is a lot better at Vons, etc.
I can't wait for Food4Less to open up, it's going to totally destroy Sol.
After my trip to Sol, I thought to myself, "Self, f locally owned grocery stores." |

What the local shops are obviously missing is customer service. They need to wise up and give their employees a crash course in being nice to the customer. The potential is there... if you ever see the owner at one of these local stores (well, not all of them), they are always more than welcome to do whatever is necessary to please you.
Most of the time employees are out of your way, which is something I usually prefer. Although spic-ole's got a point. Wait, I forgot his point.
Regarding Food4Less, I haven't been to the one in El Centro, but have been to a couple in San Diego. I don't recall any employee ever asking if I needed any assistance or being curtious to me. Usually it's a free for all for the customer and that is how they are able to keep their prices lower. That includes bagging your own items.
Max Foods is similar to Food4Less, as far as I remember, and the service is non-existent. The other day I had to go there and had the woman at the cash register blurt out the word "shit" in my face with no apology. She must of thought it was OK cause I was young and she had her faced superimposed with make-up.

Usually yeah, I remember I went to buy a cd player at Perrone's once, and the owner was there, he was cool I guess, until after I bought one. During the installation they disconnected my headlights, but I didn't notice until like an hour later because it was still daytime when I bought it.
I went back to the store to complain and the owner was a dick. He didn't want to fix it without a 20 dollar fee because I didn't have my receipt with me. He told me that he couldn't verify I had bought it there without a reciept, even though I had bought it an hour earlier. I refused to pay the fee and told him to fix it but he didn't want to. I then told him that if he didn't fix it and if I crashed on the way to get my receipt I would come back a few days later with a lawyer. At this point, he changed his story. He said that the guy who fixes that stuff's shift had ended and needed to go home already. So I told him that it was ok and that he would hear from my lawyer in a couple of days. 5 minutes later, my headlights worked.*
*Which was pretty surprising because initial installation time took over an hour. |

Similar deal I had with Calexico (Ernie's) Car Wash. Some businesses just can't accept they've fucked up with the customer and will do whatever it takes to point the blame at you.

Food-4-less is actually more expensive than Vons, so Sol's cheap-ass clientele (myself included) should remain unaffected.
As far as local stores go, the service does suck. eBay should start selling groceries, that would make life so much easier. Remeber that grocery service in San Diego? It was pretty cool to buy groceries online and have them delivered to your door. |

Albertsons is doing this now, but only in major cities. Although there's a reason why WebVan and Kozmo no longer exist. |

Super Shopping does that. I think the minimum purchase is 25 dollars.
I'd like to order 25 dollars worth of coal one day. Make them earn their tip. |

Fuck, I can't remember the last time I went to a grocery and spent less that $25. If this turns out to be true, we wont have to keep sending you to the store to buy more beer. |

What ever happens, When i want carne asada, i'll go to Sol. Food4Less is going to be the place to go when you buy all your grocieries, but if you need just some things just go to Sol.
One other thing, if Food4Less does not accept food stamps it is going to have a short stay here in Calexico. |

I have a feeling that accepting food stamps is the first item on Food4Less' expansion checklist. |
