I don't have cable but I do have DSL through SBC Yahoo! which, in my opinon is the better choice from Adelphia's Powerlink right now. cable speed limits are theoretically higher (but you'll never reach them) DSL is fast enough to do most stuff on the internet..here are the speeds

DSL: Cable:

384kbps-1.5Mbps Downstream 2Mbps- 3Mbps Downstream
128kbps Upstream 128kbps Upstream

Cost with Adelphia goes for $42.95 and you have to rent a cable modem from them for about $5/month or purchase one yourself, You can Install it yourself for free or have a technician come to your house at additional costs

Cost with SBC $49.95 month-to-month or $34.95 One-year term, if you get the One-year term, they throw in free activation, and a free $99 DSL modem and ethernet card. and again free self install, or technician at dded costs

it really depends on what you want to use the internet for, I really dont see why you need to go any faster than what DSL offers I even play heavy bandwidth games online and im not complaining, but whats appealing about cable is that its faster, cheaper, and more available than DSL and thats why people would say cable is better

I've only subscribed to Internet cable services in San Diego with Cox Communications. From my recollection, it was fast enough for me. Average downstream was ~30 KB/s, which isn't nearly as fast as my current DSL connection. This was mainly due to the network congestion caused by all the other subscribers in the area, since it's a shared service and DSL is dedicated.

Cable service may end up being faster here in the valley for a while, but Adelphia can kiss my ass for waiting too long to implement their broadband solution. SBC beat them to the punch and I "trust" this company more than one that is in the process of filing for bankruptcy (that's if they haven't done so already).

Man down, Man Down.

My DSL connection went down last Wednesday and was finally given a Red Bull on Monday.

The DSL line was OK, but it was the modem that ate shit.

I'm back

My G-friend's family just got wireless cable. They live in Imperial out on the sticks and their connection on dial up was slow never over 28.8
well since they got the cable they internet flies. I've never used DSL but I was impressed by the cable and I had heard that cab;e was slow in the Valley but I guess not. If I were you I would go with whatever is cheaper. I mean, it will be faster than what you have now, plus you'll never know which was better since you can'tcompare.

I'm currently moving into my new mansion, so that means I've got to either transfer over my DSL service to my new telco account or take a serious look at what Adelphia is able to provide.

Cable users, what has been your past experience with the service?

33.6K Modem: 16-27K
56K Modem: 34-45K
ISDN/I-DSL: 100-120K
Your throughput: 1697 K
Cable/ADSL: 229-950K
T1: 1078-1300K

Surfing speed on cable is pretty good thats what a regurlaly get on those bullshit performance test. but when downloading a file or what ever i have noticed the speed drop down to 400kps per second when downloading a file.
