Calexico unveils ‘memorial board'

CALEXICO — Pictures of Calexicans serving in the war to disarm Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein will be posted on a "memorial board" inside City Hall here today.

The pictures, with information about the person posted alongside, will be affixed to the board for as long as U.S. troops are overseas or on the front lines, according to Karla Alatorre, Calexico's media liaison.

Any Calexico resident who has a family member or friend in the service can bring in a photo to have it posted.

"Families out there with loved ones overseas need to know that they are not alone," said Luis Estrada, Calexico's interim city manager. "We support them, the city of Calexico supports them and we are all praying for a safe return."
