I've heard from a couple people that it's rumored that an In-N-Out Burgers restaurant is planning to open on Fed-Mart's old property. I know that there will be a Carl's Jr. opening up next to the Food 4 Less, but an In-N-Out Burger?

As much as I'd want one here, I really doubt it's gonna happen anytime soon.

An acquaintance of mine told me that one of his buddies wanted to buy a franchise to open in the Valley a few years back, but that the In-N-Out people weren't interested.

Maybe it's because the valley is already saturated with these cholos who sell peanuts and spread the word of Christianity from the Door? How could they possibly compete in this local market with simple bible passages on their products?

The In-N-Out Burgers corporation has definitely done their research and have good reason not to expand into this area.

I just browsed their Web site's terms & conditions and thought it was very interesting that they include some of their "secret" items under trademark ownership. Obviously, a very well run business.

I thought all In-and-Out restaurants were family owned. No franchises.

Does anyone remember what it reads at the bottom of each beverage cup?

Spending my summer in Baldwin Park I had the privelage at eating at the original In-and-Out restaurant.

If I remember correctly the reason In-N-Out wasn't interested in my acquaintance's friend's interest in a franchise was because they don't franchise at all.

It's true, In-N-Out is still family owned and they don't franchise. I've been reading Fast Food Nation: The Darkside of the All-American Meal and it is really interesting.

For instance, did you know that McDonalds makes most of its money by owning the land on which the restaurants operate and charge rent to the franchise owner? They own every parcel of land that a McDonalds is placed on all around the world.

That's very smart on McDonalds' side.

I've been wanting to get myself a copy of the book for quite a while. How about you e-mail me a copy of the book, yeah? Wink
