Wal-Mart story
I parked at Wal-Mart about a year ago and saw a Monte Carlo with a big Aztlan sticker on the back window. On the other side a saw a big Mexican Aguila. Nothing new right, but on the side window a sticker read,
"I'm Mexican"
To me that sticker/saying captures what I think of this Chicano movement.

I used to say that what Mexican-Ameicans needed was a Mexican Martin Luther King. I'm sure that if Mexicans were as vocal as Blacks, then we'd get more respect than we do; but I also know that Mexicans aren't as united, and are more laid back and easy going than Blacks, so it will never happen. What we need to do is stand up for ourselves as individuals and earn our respect individually. I believe that that should be the case for every individual of any race. If people thought of themselves as individuals, rather than belonging to a certain race, then racism wouldn't have to exist, but that will never happen either, so just live your life in a manner that will make you happy and fuck everyone else. |
Cesar Chavez UFW |
Cesar Chavez fought for better working conditions for farm workers of all races, not for the civil rights of Mexicans. No, disrespect; what Cesar Chavez did was noble and admirable, but what he did does not really affect Mexicans not involved with farm labor.
I'll gladly read any articles that prove me wrong, and will be the first to admit I'm wrong, if proven so. |

I think you are fresh out of high school. Live a little, get to meet people out of your own culture then you will realize, we are all people, each race is different. we all have our handfull of idiots...hey nobody is perfect. live and let live. |
Bravo!!! that is exactly what he needs. get a little bit of different cultures. that's the only true way to equality and tolerance. by excluding, or should i say damn someone simply because of their race is wrong. doroteo does that himself, although he will deny it. by saying he fights the evil power and the man means he believes that anyone that is not chicano is evil. i'm not chicano, i'm mexican. plain and simple. am i evil? get to know me and you'll see i'm not. i have a lot of friends, from all races. i'm a better man because of it. i could joke around with them and not have to worry about hurting anyones feelings. i could do that because we understand each other. that is what we need, understanding not bitching. |
