After months of boycotting Wal*Mart, I was finally forced to go in there to buy an alarm clock. I tried Rite-Aid and even Radio Shack, but I had to eat crow and go in that hellhole. After stabbing a small child and using him as a shield, I made it to the electronics department. I was then informed in some version of broken Spanish that the battery operated alarm clocks were in the jewelry department. So I grabbed the still warm carcass of the fallen child and made my way across the most congested walkway in the store.
I was pleasantly surprised with their selection, and ended up buying a pretty cool alarm clock under $10. I tried looking for a link to this fine product, but it seems to be a Calexico Wal*Mart exclusive. It has a large LCD display and sub displays (featuring Indiglow®), one for alarm time and status, another for the date. It also features a large snooze button that provides you with a generous extra 7 minutes. The alarm itself is a gentle short tone that increases with every repetition, not harsh at all. The thing I like the most is the fact that it has a lock switch so even if you accidentally hit the programming buttons, you wont fuck up your settings. Anybody have any cool alarm clocks I should know about?

Up until a few years ago I used the same alarm clock I had since the eigth grade. I'm not talking about those hideous radio/alarm clock either but a basic alarm clock with red lettering and a snooze button. I stopped using this clock after an unfortunate percussive treatment exercise and now I use my cell phone.

The cell phone as an alarm clock is great because you can place it anywhere. If you know that you are a perpetual snoozer you can place it far away from you where you have to actually get up and out of bed to turn it off. I know this borders on self-torture but sometimes it is the only way for me to get out of bed. Also, if there is a power failure it won't affect your phone in any way and since you are constantly recharging your phone it won't ever shut down due to not enough juice.

The only disadvantage is that the alarm sound itself is terribly annoying but then again you don't want any white sounds to lull back to sleep like water flowing or birds chirping or some shit like that. And, if you place the phone on a hard surface and the vibrate mode is on it will rattle like a mofo and may jumpstart your day to a not-so-good start.

I used to use the same thing, but after a few times of finding Nokia engraved on my back, I decided it would not be a good idea to continue using it.

Stick to a regular alarm clock, it's less hazardous to your health.
