I bought The Ring on DVD today. Talk about hype. While I'll give it credit for holding its own against the slew of other mainstream horror movies that have been released in the past year or two, I wouldn't go as far saying, "It's scarier than The Exorcist", as one critic put it (Must be the same kind of pussy that takes his own unbuttered popcorn to the theater 'cause he's watching his cholesterol.)

What did score high points with me was the sound direction and editing. Its dark mood, similar to Frailty, was also welcome. But, if I'm going to give it props for that, I must also mention that it does not, in any way, shape or form, hold a candle to Jacob's Ladder.

I'm going to pick up Ringu on DVD this weekend, as well. That should pan out much nicer.

I have to agree that The Ring was overrated...as a horror movie. I did enjoy some of the suspense tactics used.

Didn't they say the same thing about Lost Souls?

I've read some articles on the Ringu series and am very interested in seeing the entire series.

Just saw The Ring last night and it's good. Nothing great and definitely not scary, but it's an enjoyable movie that I would recommend. I honestly thought the ending was going to be joyous, but it turned out to be appropriate which is why I'd recommend the movie.

I'll have to watch Ringu next and see how the original is, in comparison to the remake. There's also a prequel and sequel of Ringu. Has anyone seen them?

Ringu 0: Baasudei

Ringu 2

On a side note... has anyone watched the Calecia.com remake of Ringu video?

Ringu was cool too, but all that Japanese sort of ruined it for me. Wink

I actually thought The Ring was better than Ringu. Sure, Ringu actually explained why they did some of the things they did, the ending for example, but overall, the Hollywood remake was actually superior.

Plus, the Japanese have a tendency to overact, which I find extremely distracting.

I, too, enjoyed the American version more, but I'm not sure that it isn't because I saw it first, and already knew what was going to happen in Ringu.
