Looks like the Imperial Valley Press guestbook has been pulled from their Web site.

I don't blame them. My guess is they got tired of morons having ridiculous arguments and discussions on a guestbook.

i think that the press is just run by a bunch of old farts that get offended by anyone with a point of view that they deem to be "different" from the norm. i think they're scared by opposing view points. i've written to them several times about the quality of the paper being sub-par, and i even mentioned a few articles that had gone unfinished, they never once responded to my letters. at least the san diego union has written back. one example of an unfinished article was one this week about a man that used his nine year old daughter as a shield in a standoff with westmoreland police(all one of them). it said the continuation of the article was on A-6. when i went to A-6, there wasn't any continuation in sight. i searched the entire paper, and nothing.

No shit.

There was this one person calling themself 'lulu' and they were totally being ridiculous complaining about the taxi situation in Calexico. Then someone named 'ALF' started talking about aliens and how this was their land and I knew from there that this was the end of it all.

Like I said, I heard about them from Bemis. I'm sure he'll have more to add to the subject when he comes around again.

I apologize for it taking me so long to get to this, Rev.

I don't remember everything about the Upi(?) legend, but I'll try to relate it as best I can:

Back in August of 2001, I was working at the Golden Acorn Casino, when one of the tribal employees told me the story. We were in the security van patrolling the back of the casino when we stopped to have a smoke. We got off the van and she tells me that she doesn't like being outdoors (on the reservation) when it's dark. I asked her why not and she told me, "Because there are little people out here."

I asked her what she meant and she told me that there is a lot of black magic that has tainted the land where the reservation and the casino are located at. She said that "upis" (I'm not sure how it's spelled) are creatures with bodies the size of dolls and human sized heads. She said that if you are outdoors at night you can hear them moving in the brush; you'll think that it's a coyote or some other animal, but if you listen closely you can hear voices whispering. If you are in a car and you pull off the road, you'll hear the sound of something tapping, or even scratching at your car. If you go out to investigate the "upis" will hurt you.

Now, to be honest, I don't usually believe in things like this, although I love hearing these kinds of stories, but this one scared the shit out of me, and here's why:

Four nights before that chick told me the story, I was working at the bottom of the road (that leads up to the casino), it was the tribal grand opening and I was supposed to make sure that anyone that tried to go in was tribal. The streetlights still weren't working so it was pretty dark down there. I got out of the van to have a smoke. I had walked about 10 feet away from the van when I heard something move in the brush on the side of the road right next to the van. I turned around and saw, what I could've sworn was an old woman's face about six inches off the ground! I grabbed my Mag-Lite and shined it to where I thought I saw a face and there was nothing there, but some dry grass and rocks. I turned off the flashlight and looked back at the same area again, thinking that maybe the rocks and the moonlight had created the image of an old woman's face, but, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't make the rocks look like any type of face. I got a little freaked out, but walked over to the area where I "saw" the face and heard something run into the brush. "It must be a coyote or a rabbit", I thought to myself, but then I could've sworn that I heard whispering voices. I assumed the voices were coming from the casino, but was still freaked out enough to get back onto the van. I turned on the radio and was starting to calm down when I started hearing something scratching the outside of the van! I thought, "It has to be the wind", and decided to get down to see what was scratching at the van, but I wasn't able to muster up the courage to go outside. I radioed the command station and asked for someone to switch with me, using the excuse that I had to use the restroom.

When I told that tribal chick about what I experienced that night, she told me that I was very lucky to not have gotten out of the van to investigate that scratching sound.[/b]

I apologize for the length of that thread, but revramrod asked me to relate the story.

No need for an apology here. If some people can't/won't read it (for whatever reason), TFS.
