Calexic Police Officers were recently "advised" to allow vehicles to drive off the pavement during peak hours of traffic in Calexico. A violation of California Vehicle code section 21755(a) CVC.

This is a common problem where people dont like being in line and pull to the left or right and unsafely pass for long distances, angering others and endangering traffic as they attempt to enter the "line" further down the road.

Officers were advised after city councilman Daniel Romero was cited for the following violation on 12/31/09. Citation Number (B109306) Romero apparently spoke to other councilmen and the Chief of Police. Afterward officers were advised by their supervisors not to cite councilmen.

Officers believe this to be a clear obstruction of justice. Officers are not exempt nor or councilmen. This type of belief is why Calexico is rife with problems, this is just a small look into the major problems that exist.

If you are a concerned citizen, please contact a city official or an agent with the State Attorney Generals Office and make sure this obstruction of justice stops. The New year should be a new start for all of us.

Seriously Calexico, enough of this.

What happens if Calexico police officers don't follow this order?

"No shit, Sherlock."

But we need something to reference (besides this post), otherwise city officials will deny the claim.

Probably get the axe. It wouldn't be the first time an officer gets fired for no reason...

why would the do such a thing considering they are already under the microscope for all those other incidents that occurred last year... I say we ask the governor to make the sheriffs take over this lawless land!!!!

Listen, the major problem isnt that that this is some minor ticket being brushed under the rug, it's that the PD as a whole has to be exposed and let the slimy crawly things be seen in the light.

If you have command staff who allow these types of violations, and far worse, encourage them, including the violations of Officers constitutional rights, then what do you expect to happen out on the street? It is a very mixed message.

The new "everyone is accountable" phrase obviously is not in place or working, its a broken system. But nobody wants to hear about their compa, or uncle, or friend being sometype of monster, theyre cops, they always do what is right,....right?

Wrong.......This "bus" needs a new driver, who tells all the kids, you are either on this bus and abiding by the law, or I will throw you underneath it. And if you cannot do your job and are incompetent or a danger to others, your gone at the next stop!

Good luck Calexico,....

excuse my language but that's some BULLSHIT!

before i read the entire post i figured it would be either Ouzan or romero. they seem to have that type of attitude.

what happens if a CPD does his job and still gives a citation to a council member?

Daniel Romero as a council member should pay his damn ticket and stop being such a drama queen. PERIOD!

i would write to our Cogressman but he doesnt seem to follow rules very well.

Awesome. Self-serving, incompetence, neglect, and abuse of power are just a few words that come to mind. State legislators passed vehicles codes to protect drivers and pedestrians. However, “someone” in Calexico has the authority to circumvent California law. Great.

Does anyone know his hearing date? Has the citation been paid or resolved? Waived?

Councilman Romero abused his power by simply talking to Chief of Police. There was no reason for him to talk to the Chief. Once again, the Chief and the City Council has exposed Calexico to liability.
