I get so upset when i read about poeple wanting to keep Calexico a "small town". This city is growing and would grow to be this "super" city only if the 2nd St crew would stop chasing out the outside merchants. The 2nd St. support team is only keeping the city down. Open your eyes, let us grow... welcome the outside!!! |

Could you back up your statement with some facts? What's the latest thing this wondrous city has prevented? You're going to get the Super-Walmart you've asked for, so what are you complaining about?

| i didn't ask for the super wal-mart, i don't like the idea for meat and eggs to be in the shoe department. That will most likely happen knowing how gross and un-clean wal-mart is. What i'm saying is in the calexico chronicle, i have read that local merchants don't want any outsiders coming in and ruining the "small local" shops and stuff, because they are the heart of the city. I'm saying let the city grow, instead of El Centro getting the money from the outsiders. |

| I’m all for growth, but have you noticed how fucking sterile El Centro feels? Calexico is gritty and quaint because of the desmadre downtown and elsewhere. I think if corporations took over like they have in El Centro, Calexico would loose all it’s energy and feel very bland. |

I agree with Karizma. I wish the local business owners, especially wth political ties, had no say when deciding the fate of their competition. They get to decide whether they're going to allow a company, that could potentially break them, to come to Calexico, or not. This is a huge conflict of interest.
Besides a couple markets, hot dog stands, and maybe one or two stores their isn't anything of real value. There are probably over 100 "99 Cent" stores if you count downtown and the Price Center. Most everything sold in Calexico is of very poor value and is way overpriced. I'm not saying I want huge corporations to come and take over, but if it was a choice between having to travel to SD or ordering from the internet, and being able to find what I want within my own city, I would rather make my purchases here. |

If those shops downtown are the heart of the city, then Calexico needs bypass surgery, now!
Downtown is nothing but second-rate clothing and shoe stores, and refurbished electronic shops run by Asians and Arabs who's only motivations are greed and auto-segregation, not the betterment of the city or community.
I don't shop downtown. I can't think of many local people that shop downtown. Downtown exists solely to squeeze money from pedestrian border-crossers. Period. Anybody who say's they're doing it for the community, to preserve the local charm, out of loyalty, et. al. is just pulling on your heartstrings to distract you long enough to pick your wallet. |

Well moderated, corporate-owned stores and franchises would be a great addition to Calexico.
Local merchants have proven time and time again that they will not provide the goods and services we demand. The fact that we do our shopping in San Diego or on the Internet is completely inconsequential to them. They're motivated to serve and appease shoppers from Mexicali, not Calexico, under the guise, and at the expense of, Calexico's best interest. |

| I think downtown owners are dicks. First off they make the choices on what comes into the community, but give me a break, Say they open a Best Buy, in Calexico. People who shop at Best Buy in SD will buy at the one here, people who buy shitty audio and electronic equipment will keep shopping at the shitty places they've always shopped at. the only way, people from mex will stop shopping downtown is if they fucking destroy it. Other wise the are going to shop there. they'd rather have 3 shitty stereos than 1 good one |
