The fresas from here are only wannabe rich kids, they can't really afford to drop 100 bucks on a pair of pants. They all go to shop at outlets for their "cool" clothes.
What would do well here wouldn't be a gap, levis, diesel, etc stores, but outlet stores. That's where the money is here. |

a friend of mine that used to work at toys r us here and now works at the store in mira mar told me the majority of their sales came from those sidewalk sales and christmas. he said that's how they survived this long. the rest of the year, most of the employees work about 10 hours a week. that way they could keep the payroll to a minimum. the last part i don't know, but for him it was true. one week he worked only 8 hours. that's why he transfered to sd. |

Capitalism.
It's fantastic.
This support the local market is crap. I don't care if it's Wal-Mart or La Vaca. All I care is whether they have the items I want at the lowest price possible. Bigger, better, and cheaper.
Yeah, let's hate on Super Wal-Mart, but let's support the California Markets. When was the last time you walked into California or Peso. They are dirty and smell bad. Some of their products are expired. Yeah let's support them and keep big corporations out.
Perrones or Tweeter. Nah, support Perrone and have shitty ass selection at a higher price too. On top of that he can make money and run for city politics. Keep the corruption alive.
When was the last time the local merchants supported the community. Go ask for a donation at Perrones or la Vaca. What have the Lou's (Peso Markets) done for the community. I know that they have moved from Las Casitas and have moved into the better part of town (Victorias). What has Yum-Yum done for the community?
At least the big corporations ala Wal-Mart match up to 1,000 dollars per fiscal year. So if you have an organization and want to raise funds for your cause you go to Wal-Mart and they match you up to 1 grand. If you go to Pep Boys they donate some products if your doing a Car warsh fund raiser.
I wonder how much Yum-Yum donates. How about all the dowtown stores?
Personally, I don't shop downtown. Why would I. Those stores are not geared for calecianos, but for mexicanos that earn almost nothing.
Look, Victoria Secret will not survive in Calexico, but cheaper Lingerie stores will.
What's the problem?
Let Capitalism do it's job. If you don't like it, then we can always resort to Marxism. |

Currently I'm working with a legendary calexico ex-mayor Victor Carillo. He is teaching me the ropes. Maybe one day I can run and become Mayor of Calexico.
I accept your nomination... |
