at first she was all for it, but then she made a big ol'thing about the merchants using the parking instead of the customers.
I understand that they took the meters off so that would make shoppers spend more time shopping, but really, its just common sense that the merchants are going to want to park near thier businesses.
i mean, downtown isn't exactly the safest place to leave ur car for 8 -10 hours. |

having free parking downtown didn't meant unrestricted parking... you still had to obey the 2 hour limit.. or am I wrong? |

You are right. So if Czar's claims are real, then the biz owners were breaking the law. |

There has been a lot of abuse by not having parking meters.” Rocha said, “Most of the cars that we see are from the employees and the business owners.” Rocha also shared that a couple of weeks ago her license plates were stolen from her car. She called the Police Chief and was told that there is not enough police officers to patrol downtown since there are no parking meters at this time.
“We need the parking meters back again to have security at downtown and have our police force patrol the area.” She said. Rocha said she was opposed to take away the parking meters because the City was not in a position to lose parking revenue when they are facing a $3.5 million deficit.
“There are times were we cannot raise enough money to pay our rent. Things are very slow right now.” She said.
Rocha also mentioned that downtown merchants and its employees do not use the parking areas designated for them to park their vehicles. She also plans to meet with City Manager Victor Carrillo and will ask him how many downtown owners and employees pay for their parking permits. |
