Mexicali and Imperial valleys already has a horrendous air pollution problem thanks to farmers and poverty on both sides, so why not make it even worse by building two huge American power plants in Mexicali and having them pump 5,000 tons of pollutants a year into the air? We've got to try and be #1 one at something, right?

It's simple economics, man. San Diego has money and needs electricity, Mexicali/Mexico has lax environmental laws and needs money. |

| I can't believe they concentrated on the laws and didn't mention that in the U.S. they would have to pay the workers like 10 times more than they would have to pay them in Mexico. |

Very true, but since the majority of this generated power is being shot right back into the United States, our government (US) needs to force the same (or better) regulations and restrictions as those here, especially since they are located so close to the international border.
This is what the state of California is attempting to do with a new bill they will try to pass, but I can bet that the chances of that happening are very slim.

I think it's pretty obvious that this is one of the major reasons these companies are building facilities in Mexico. It doesn't even need to be mentioned.
The major concern, at least mine, is the air we share with Mexico. People, it's a myth that the pollution from Mexico doesn't jump the fence like some of it's citizens do. |

| Just look at the New River. It's polluted by american companies that went to Mexico to be allowed to dump raw sewage into a river. Those fucking companies have killed the New River and the Salton Sea. |

Believe it or not, the major contributor to pollution of the Salton Sea is not industrial waste from south of the border.

very interesting. i was under the same impression as everyone else. i did know about the water treatment plant that is being built in mexicali, but that still won't help when you still get these companies going in there and doing whatever they want with their wast. |
