sorry for being a skeptic on this one, but the last time the other port was built, the U.S. had to pay the Mex government to build their port so that they could finish the west port of entry... so again, i don't know how its going to work.... |

According to La Voz, the US was going to spend $200M while Mexico was going to spend $30M. These amounts were to cover the new POEs in Mexicali and Tijuana.
Has this changed? |

| It is my understanding the U.S. side is going to cost 275 million as of yesterday according to GSA. The first phase, construction will start next year. I have the same La Voz and La Cronica articles. If you wish I can e-mail a copy to you. Otherwise I must dig out the link to these articles. I will post them later on in the day. |

Next step is to present Rep. Bob Filner with several proposals to resolve these issues. |
New development! see

My comments to the news article is -
Part of the money should come from the sale of the property owned by the City of Calexico to GSA/DHS and invest it in the improvements of the New River. In Other words, do a swap to GSA, plus the 10 million and plus the 4 million which came from Congressman Filner's committee. I am interested to know how much or the value of the property the City of Calexico intends to sell to GSA. It my understanding the City of Calexico has plans to place the money from the sale into the City's general fund to buy new city vehicles for the city council or something like that. August 20, 2009 up date! The New Calexico West Port of Entry is up in the Air but closer on landing. The New Calexico City Manager Victor Carrillo promised transparence when the city property is bought by GSA. GSA promised the same transparency when land is bought from the Crawford Company and the City of Calexico. As it stands now money coming from the sale will go into the City's General Fund.
We were shown the new rendition as how the New Port will look. Encasing the New River is still up in the Air. We are waiting for an odor test results from the State of California Public Health Department according Russell Bartlett. The Federal Test on odor has been completed and they saying the odor are okay per Jonathan Ballard of GSA. Meaning the odors is not so bad. They don’t here and I guess they can say that? GSA can’t smell the odor in San Francisco or San Diego and much less in Washington.
It is my understanding the Imperial Highway will be converted into a parking lot once the south bound lands are built going into Mexico for the New Port of Entry. It will a hour or two hour wait going into Mexico on Fridays. I can hardly wait. Signed by Ray Askins

Cluster F? It gets better. KOA of San Diego is doing the Traffic Report Study and they not are planning peak periods for traffic. Chavez Blvd will be widened and that may include St. Tomas for traffic heading north from the New Calexico Port of Entry. Highway 86 is not an option.
It is suggested the downtown Calexico pedestrian Port of Entry will be expanded increasing the number of isles to 16. That was not a brainier.
The Port Director Billy Whitford states at will check by CBP and CP will continue and that the City of Calexico will have traffic control out while doing these inspections at hock inspections before going into Mexico. Gee what happen in the last few weeks? Did anyone see any traffic control personals during theses super duper inspections?? I didn’t.
I know why the inspections, it is to increase gases going into the air from vehicles creating an intense concentration of pollution. It is if we don’t have enough coming across to the U.S. from Mexico. It is creating that cloud of smog over the border, so much for asthma for children. The New River pollution is not enough. Ohh come on Ray, don't be like that... You know that those southbound inspections are to get all the money and guns that the narcos are driving over there... plus if someone commits a crime on this side and they want to run for the border, they wont be able to cause there will be permanent CBP officers in their booths at all times(ideally, though i don't think it will)... |

What is more important? I think children lives are more important. A better way must be found to reduce the pollution at the border. The border must be designed for peak traffic with a reduced wait time of 15 minutes or less.
To stop the money and guns flow - the trusted sniffing dogs to the rescue, it is better than a CP or a CBP nose. Signed by Ray Askins |

I get that and that's why covering the new river would be the best option... sending the traffic through over the river and away from the city. Of course making a drain for the new river and putting polluting cars on top of it is not the best way to get rid of the problem, but at least it will help with the traffic flow.
The issue at hand is that the community does not want a San Ysidro-eske port because Calexico is a small town and all that jazz...
The real issue is that most people forget that even though Calexico is tiny, Mexicali is a real metropolitan city in which 40 percent of its population crossing the border on a regular basis. So there should be a san Ysidro type of port. There should also be a port solely for sentri, like the one they have over at El Paso, TX. There should be many different things but as long as Calexico keeps being an insignificant border town, I don't see them taking what the community thinks seriously. I mean Filner is probably the only guy giving the GSA grief about the port... Whom else?? I dont see the governor or the two senators we have dealing with it...
There will be traffic and lots of it, there is no way around it... There will never be 15 minute lines to cross. I think its been at least 3 decades that there hasn't been lines that take 15 mins on a regular basis. |

In the Crystal Ball Report #36 called CBP Crystal Ball in the Name of Security and Safety I stressed the importance of a 15 minute wait because of the vehicle emissions. The Air pollution is the second worse in the United States found in El Centro. Children are dying with asthma.
In report #36 I suggested the downtown port of entry is covert all lanes to Sentri lanes. That should reduce the wait time to 15 minutes as a start.
Heart disease is number one and cancer is number two in deaths in Imperial County. It is a must read. All of this is cause for cancer, too. Another must read is Don't drink the Water in Mexico (Mexicali)? Report 41. In Mexico death from cancer is number one.
