| I was listening to the radio and read in the newspaper about Greg Foster former NBA player who won a championship with the Lakers in 2000-2001, and other former NBA players teaming up with IVC for a basketball camp. I think this is awsome for the valley and the kids!!! |

Here is an article I found from the IV press... I have been also talking to some people at the college and they said that proceeds of this go to the IVC foundation... This seems realy cool!!!! I thought this is a forum to discuss things... Is everyone normaly this quiet????
Eleven-year NBA veteran Chris Morris and 13-year NBA vet Greg Foster played as long as they did because they weren’t always flashy and didn’t make Sportscenter highlights night in and night out.
They just worked their tails off and played basketball the right way.
Former Utah Jazz, New Jersey Nets and Phoenix Suns player Chris Morris is helping to organize a basketball camp here in the Imperial Valley with the help of Tim Chan and the Right Sports Show in August.
So it wasn’t a coincidence that Tim Chan, producer of the “Right Sports Show,” wanted to work together with the now-retired Morris and Foster and a few other professional basketball players to put together a camp in the Imperial Valley, where Chan has family connections.
“Greg and I have been doing camps in Oakland and Riverside,” Morris, a 6-8 former forward, said. “And I remembered that Tim was trying to get something together so we decided to put together a camp in his area.”
The Imperial Valley camp is slated to be in early to mid-August with some last-minute arrangements to be worked out on the exact days.
But so far, the camp will be a four-day, fundamental intensive event. The pros plan on working diligently to help teach the basics and how to do things correctly and effectively. On the last day, the youths will have a culmination of the week with skills competitions, competitive games and chances to win prizes and autographed photos and possibly other items.
“We are going to teach and guide the players every day and it’s going to be pretty tough for them,” said Morris, the fourth overall draft pick of the New Jersey Nets in the 1988 NBA draft. “We want them to have fun and work them hard but also help give them confidence in themselves on the court.”
Youths who are in elementary and junior high are the target groups of players Morris and the other pros want to focus on so they can “help correct” any of the mistakes the young players might make.
Chan previously put together a television show in the Valley based on acknowledging student-athletes who are stars on the field or court and in the classroom.
That seemed to be a perfect fit for Morris and what his colleagues want to give to the players.
“One of the things I want to do is to have the kids think that once the camp is over with that they’ve really learned some about the game of basketball,” said the ex-Auburn Tiger Morris. “We want to teach the kids how to play a team game — how to pass, how to shoot, play defense.”
Former Los Angeles Laker A.C. Green and NBA journeyman Chris Gatling are also slated to attend the camp and teach players how to be productive on and off the court.
“If we see a kid struggling, we’ll pull them aside and show them how to do what we’re teaching them,” Morris said. “We want to really teach these kids how to work hard.”
This is the first go-round in the Valley for Morris and friends but he’s planning on it not being his last.
“We’re going to try and make this an annual event down here in the Valley,” Morris said. “This camp could be a stepping stone to a much bigger camp in years to come.”
The cost will be $125 per camper, and parents and players can get more information on the exact dates of the camp by going to www.gregfosterbasketball.com |

| No, but we're just sitting back and watching you shamelessly promote your basketball camp program. |

Yes, this is great for the valley kids to participate in and this is the first time I hear about it. Normally we depend on our members to contribute to the site and I'm glad to see you've taken that initiative.
BTW, it wouldn't be Calecia.com if we didn't throw in a few jabs at the newbies and dummies. |

Is this camp for you or your 6 year-old kid?
If it's for you, then I have no problem dropping cash on this basketball camp. However, if it's for your 6 year-old, then you're wasting your money.
I see a lot of camps in the Valley that go for $30 for 2 sessions. Yeah, they get a t-shirt and run some cool drills, but overall they are not worth it.
Children under 13 need summer camps and leagues. A 2 day crash course with 50+ kids is not the answer. |

OH OH OH..... And one last thing VERBAL, Bro or Brodette......
Just because you can't afford $125.00 to send your little nino & nina (for a 4 day NBA players camp for 7 hours a day) Should not constitute you discouraging (Hating), on a camp that we who can afford to send our kids, to send our kids. In terminology that you can understand, " GET OFF THE HATER-ADE BRO", and go get a job so you can send your kids!!!! This is good for the Valley....Peace out my fellow Calecia peeps!!!! |
