Best Raspados in Mex or Calex?

I don't have to tell you it's mofo'ing hot outside and that you wouldn't mind having yourself an cold drink, ice cream or even a raspado. That's exactly what I had to give into last time I was in Mexicali and it was too hot for just plain old water. I grabbed myself a raspado to cool myself down and hopefully put a stop to the sweat that was dripping down my face.

A long time ago I used to love stopping at Mr. Raspado and get myself a Hawaiiano, but Mr. R's doesn't seem to exist anymore so I gave up on raspados altogether. I once got one at one of the Michoacanas, but it just wasn't good enough to go back. A fews weeks ago I got one at Raspados Playas and it was a bit different, but pretty damn tasty. They were more liquidy and sugary and tasty. I'm gonna have to remember to get me one of these the next time I'm sweating like a pig that actually sweats and I don't give a hoot about my figure.

I'm not sure Cuchi's can compare to raspados from Mex. What are you thoughts?

I'm not real big on raspados, but my wife and kid like them. We live in EC, so we just go to Raspados Chubby. I always get either volcano (a mix of chile mango and piña) or chile mango. Sometimes they're great and sometimes they suck. But I do like them better than Cuchi's. I Overall, though, I just prefer beer.

Jardin Hawaiiano in El Centro has some pretty tasty raspados. Their chile mango kicks some serious ass. It can probably even cure your hangover. Their strawberry one is also one of my favorites. While you're at it, order yourself a pico de gallo with your raspado or a "clamato preparado". You'd be doing yourself a serious favor.

In Mex I usually go to Alaska or Playas. Playa's is pretty unique the way they crush their ice. I used to get pissed off at first when I used to go there cause they never gave you straws, but after like the 3rd time I found out that it was done on purpose, their raspados are meant to be eaten with a spoon.
In El Centro... well actually I don't think I've ever eaten a raspado in El Centro. But I do know that I've completely boycotted Chubby's raspados cause the owner tried to take advantage of the popularity of Cuchi's raspados, and forced them out of the locale and opened up Chubby's to try and keep Cuchi's customers. What a dick! So whenever I feel like having some fresh Mangos with chile, I go over to Cuchi's on fourth.

Alaska is on Calzada de las Americas, counter corner with Jineras restaurant, which is my favorite Traditional Mexican food restaurant in Mex. So next time you feel like having Real Mexican food, go to Jineras and on the way out stop at Alaska for dessert.

Playas, theres one inside the little shopping center where Dune and Burger King are at on Justo Sierra, and there's another one on Justo Sierra right in front of Instituto Salvatierra (high school).
