I trip out on the whole culture behind posting comments to Web sites and message boards. There's a lot of negativity that gets posted here, people flaming on each other or about different topics, but by and large the Calecia.com community is pretty respectful and pretty lucid.

I can't say the same for the people that post to the ivpressonline.com Web site. I know a lot of you aren't fans of that paper, but if you check out the comments posted to stories nine times out of 10 there are negative, nitpicking and borderline racist. THey hide behind anonymity, taking shots at each other, the reporters, the subjects of stories. And none of it is constructive.

I've come to realize that many of you on Calecia now each other personally, so many of you treat each other with respect, and maybe a little playful ribbing. That doesn't seem to be the case, though, in the larger world of posting comments or responding to message boards. There's an inherent negativity in it.

I guess I'm going off because I read a story about a boy who got ejected off his ATV and ran into a parked car and died. The first thing the post did was crack on the reporter about using collided "into" rather than collided "with." It's true, it was the wong word choice, but Jesus Christ it was a sad story and that's the first thing that crosses this idiot's mind?

No shit.

There's a story right now about the City of Calexico being $2.7M in the hole and the only comments you read are crap like giving back Calexico to Mexico and putting up a wall north of Calexico. I won't even waste my time responding to them because they're a little clique of your typical moron valley residents who think they're the most intellectual fuckfaces in the area. They're never wrong.

IMO, the paper screwed up by enabling the comments on there because at least in the past you were able to read the news articles and comment to yourself about it. Opening "legit" news to scrutiny just takes away from the real story. The comments then become the story as most readers will probably just go directly to them and opine without reading the article.

On C.com, you expect a variety of bullshit, but on the paper you would expect some type of professionalism and that isn't possible when you have some douchebag shitting on the local rag.

Say all you want about the IV Press, but when it comes down to it, it's all we've got, so we need to appreciate it and expect some type of quality from them.

I strongly believe that the comments posted on the story blogs on the IV PRESS ONLINE are a bunch of HATERS ! These fuk heads are probably employees of the IV Press or people from EL Centro who love to always talk shit about us down south. These very threatened fools will never change and will always attempt to talk down to us Calecianos. PURA PINCHI ENVIDIA!!

Most likely, the descendants of ex-con El Centro cholos who grew up listening to their anti-Calexico stories of their fathers in the East Side.

That gag was pretty funny the first time. Seeing you use it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, well it's not as funny. Sorry. I don't get it.

You're still doing that gig?

How about we recruit you over to C.com, where you'll be treated like a king?

Same with the sports duo. We can trade them for a set of bats. And a pair of balls too.

How much do you pay? Just kidding. I would love to be a greater part of C.com, and I do give C.com love pretty often by mentioning it on my blog posts -- for what it's worth. But they've been good to me over there. The editor, Brad Jennings, is a remarkable guy. Plus I haven't even been there a year yet, my contract is up in August (I think I signed some kind of agreement).

I don't think you could pry those other guys away from their sports blog. They even let them write columns for the paper. "Special to this newspaper: Soulman"
