We need your analysis of this election. I know you were probably the youngest person to run for elected office but we need your take on the situation. You were probably the most knowledgeable candidate about issues.
How much did you spend?
What would you have done differently?
Do you still want to get involved in the community and make a difference?
What's your take on the Castro conflict of interest and the fact that he owes the city money on a rental property?
What would you like Calecia.com readers to look at?

TAke the hot dogs to the men's shelter on Encinas.

I wondered how many of the candidates were supporting the Mexicali printing industry with all the signs plastered around town. Though when you can get mass printing services from Mex at A LOT cheaper cost and with comparable quality than that of printing shops in the valley, how could you resist?

Did anyone complain when major label album art was printed in Canada?

Of course, if these candidates were making the advancement of the local economy one of their campaign promises, then they should have stayed "local" to avoid criticism. Most of the campaign funds didn't come out of their pocket, so why would they care if they spent more on signs anyway?

It's still funny how Castro is always unavailable for comment. Is he available for Adelante?

Chuco, Here are the answers to your questions.
1. I have spent somewhere in the area of $7k-8k. My final numbers still aren't done.
2. Next time, I would make myself more vocal at the council meetings, I did pretty much everything else. I attened the council meetings, had functions for the people to come meet me and see what I stand for, I walked the majority of the City. Was found often at the cities functions as well. I don't know what else I needed to do.
3. The Castro conflict is going to become a major problem fairly quickly with his contract expiring at the end of June. Fuentes will act on any action of Castro to try and squeeze in the bid under a new entity where he has "no" interest. I'm not trying to sound like it doesnt matter, but everybody who conducts business with the city, owes the city money. It's not lost money, just owed money.
4. Calecia.com readers really just need to stay involved. They could host a forum, but like most people running, they would say, "who is Calecia.com?" when they are approached. Still unsure of what is needed from Calecia.com readers.

This amount of money flowing into Mexicali, isn't because we would rather choose to spend the money over there, the fact of the matter is that there is no comparable service here In Calexico to print signs of that size and durability. And if there is, this business really dropped the ball by not contacting the candidates, knowing that their product would be needed for an effective campaign.

This service that is lacking in Calexico, shows that more economic development is needed here in Calexico. If this service is absent, what else is missing from Calexico that we have to go elsewhere to find.

The City of Calexico supports local business as well, but also goes to other locations for services. Such as all the consulting firms that we hire to prepare our CEQA documents like the one that is needed for the Casino and any major development that will most definately affect the city's infrastructure.

The candidates did not do any harm to Calexico by going out of town, but merely did what they needed to do to run an effective campaign. It's a no brainer if you can get your signs for $15 a piece in Mexicali instead of $35 a piece in El Centro, you would pay the $15 bucks each and get more signs, because the money isn't staying in Calexico anyway.
