I was reading on the paper today about how allegedly two "rival" gangs in Calexico were fighting for control of the local pollero industry and I was a bit surprised. I've heard of gangs having a role in the drug trade, but illegal human smuggling? Have our local Calecianos gone to another extreme?

I remember some stupid little kid I know a few years ago trying to prove how hard he was by telling me he was smuggling in illegals here in Calexico. I wasn't sure he was lying or not, but he almost shit his pants when I told him I worked for the Border Patrol. Of course I don't work for the BP, but I needed to shut this idiot up. He ended up saying he was just kidding, but he did have a bit of interesting information about the trade.

So now we have cholos shooting each other over smuggling of people and drugs.

Maybe Gryphon1 can shine some light on what the Calexico PD is doing to put a stop to the violent crime that is being generated by this trade?

Can we expect pollero-related crime to increase or is this an isolated incident?

Fuck that. Enough of my tax dollars go into sending bloodthirsty assholes with no interest in getting a real education to Iraq.

I believe this gangster/pollero thing has been going on for quite some time, or so it seems. Back when I was in high school we would have many cholos brag about how they (and their families) would make a living out of smuggling human beings. Not only that, it was talked about as if it were the most honorable and worhty of respect thing there ever was.

What needs to be done? Jail. It's simple and bad enough of a punishment.

Jail doesn't seem to be much of a deterrent. From Wall Street to Lincoln St, if the crime pays well enough then a couple of years in jail is a small price to pay. Granted, Wall Street criminals do easy time, if any, and human smugglers go to "Federal Pounding in the Ass Prison," but that doesn't seem to stop them. But hey, maybe if things keep going the way they're going the Dollar will be worthless and no one will need to be smuggled into this country anymore. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Well, honestly it is getting worse, and officers are not taking anychances. You have to understand that the Federal Attorney will not prosecute smugglers on their first arrest, and when it comes to drugs, for marijuana your doing one day for each pound. ridiculous. This is a federal prosecution problem, or have legislators write law allowing California peace officers to arrest, prosecute human smugglers. State time sucks compared to federal time.

You will see increased patrol and increased activity from police in that area. I know, I'll be there.
