Pacheco suggested a .25% sales tax increase to specifically fund the National Guard Armory project which is now again to be used for recreational use and not for low income housing. This would raise our local sales tax to 8.0% and the increase would be put on the November ballot for the citizens to decide.

The Armory project would cost anywhere from $300,000 to $15,000,000. I guess that would range from a lot with just grass to an extreme tobogan.

If Measure Y was voted down last year, which was a sales tax increase primarily for recreation, what's makes the city council think that this tax increase would pass?

It's clear the people don't trust the local government when it comes to spending the funds for the promised projects.

"specifically to fund the project?" Just like the hospital tax was specifically to fund the hospital we don't have?

Exactly.

Is it possible that since the city is in the red they may end up using the additional revenue from the sales tax increase to save themselves?

Why doesn't a private recreation business come in and setup a recreational facility instead. I'm for public recreation, but I just don't trust the city to pull off a project this big unless they can prove me wrong.

The way I see it, it's not in their hearts to offer public recreation since they were toying with the idea of adding more apartments, thus more revenue for them.

We could suggest more Public functions to provide funding from proceeds of the events to actually help fund the project at hand. This years Mariachi Festival's proceeds are supposed to go towards Recreation. This should've been done since the property's purchase in 2003. We need to move forward with funding this project, instead of placing something on the ballot for a Tax Increase, or Deed Restriction. We need to look into Non-Profit organizations that come down and build parks for cities and towns that need it. I know of an example of this in El Centro. We have 10 extra acres over at the Victoria Park to use, and this Armory Site is availiable as well. Mis-use of city property and time is what is going to hold both these projects up.
I hope that I get enough votes to get in and do something, because I'm fed up and frustrated.
