At the SDSU political forum, Lewis Pacheco was throwing out career saving tid-bits of information that pertained to the direction of the City of Calexico. One of those things he quickly grazed on was that California Highway 98 would eventually become four lanes from point (Ocotillo) to point (near Yuma).
He brought this up because I think someone had asked about the semis that were passing through Calexico. It kind of seemed like he was scrambling for anything because he later mentioned the trucks could just take the 7 to the 8 and avoid Calecia altogether.
Has anyone heard anything about Highway 98 becoming four lanes? I can't imagine the need for four lanes on the west side towards San Diego, but it would make sense towards the East Port of Entry. |

I haven't heard about that, but it's a good idea. I never take 98 because I feel it's too dangerous being a two lane highway. If it were four lanes, I'm sure you would see traffic increase considerably. This would be good for Calexico's growth, I think. El Centro has been able to attract businesses for decades thanks to I-8.
And I really hope they will route semi traffic the way he described. I live right off of 98, and day and night the noise polution from the semi trucks is terrible. When I first bought my place, I had to resort to buying a noisy fan to distract myself enough from the street noise so I could go to sleep. |

There are plans inplace for Highway 98 to be widened to four lanes from Cesar Chavez (railroad tracks) all the way west out to Dogwood Rd. This plan from Cal-trans is in the works and will take about another 5 years until the project actually starts. This is info that was said during some city council meetings for some developments who's impacts would require highway 98 expansion. As to expansion of 4 lanes all the way out to Ocotillo, i see highly unlikely.
Semi's passing through Calexico was supposed to be solved by the now "dead" Jasper Rd. Corridor. Those plans called for State Route 98 to be redirected onto Jasper Rd so the semi's and all the traffic would not impact one of the two main artery's in Calexico, Highway 98. With CM Ranch Pulling out of annexation, it is highly unlikely that talks will continue on the Jasper Rd Corridor.

CM Ranch was all the new development from the Camarena Jr. High to the East Port of Entry? |

| No, but it was the largest, and the closet to actually becoming a reality. They were going to do all the initail off-sites to bring services to that area. With all the other project's looking to tie in to their improvments. And well, no development will reach all the way out to the New Port because of the Gateway of the America's Specific Area Plan that encompasses around 2,000 Acres or so?? |
