So I show up last night at the SDSU forum and what do I see? It looked like everyone in the audience was already a supporter/volunteer of a candidate sporting a campaign t-shirt. There might have been a few people there who were actually there to learn from the experience and to make a more "educated" vote come June 3rd.

I arrived around 7:45 PM and it was a bitch to find parking. There was a (religious) concert going on at the park and I had to park a few blocks down. I should've paid someone so I could park my car in their driveway.

So here's my one-liner summary for each candidate of what I witnessed last night:

Mohamed Asiad
Why run if you're not going to participate in the forum, buddy?

Luis J. Castro
Porque vas a correr si no vas a participar en el foro, compita?

Michael Mayne
Showed signs of "rookieness," but was promising with his stance on recreation and parks.

Carmen Durazo
Calexico's Hillary showed her love for downtown, but no love for the hot dogs.

John Moreno
Wasn't sure what to expect from J.Mo, but he definitely has charisma.

Lewis Pacheco
Slightly defended himself regarding his scandal and was a downer all night.

Daniel F. Romero
Honestly can't remember much about him, except that he was wearing a suit.

Yasue Maeda-Valladolid
Felt to me like she was actually running for ASB president.

Gilbert Grijalva
Seemed experienced as a previous council member/mayor, although I was curious as to what his accomplishments as a public servant actually were.

At least there was someone in the audience that was there to educate themselves for this election.

I would also like to say that 3 mintues is not enough time for anyone to make any valid points. I didn't even get a chance to cover half of the ideas that I had put together to say.

I also wanted to say that I was glad that it was organized so well. I thought it was going to be a mess and it was really good.

Hopefully there will be another pretty soon.

They seemed to give Danny Ramirez more than 3 minutes to give his extreme pro-life spiel.

The moderator was a push-over for him. When Ramirez kept talking past his 3 minutes, the moderator said something to the effect, that if everyone in the audience was OK with it, he could continue. Baloney. He should've been cut off right at 180 seconds just like most of the other candidates were.

I wonder if Ramirez gets his way around the rest of the City of Calexico?
