I know there are a few NOFX fans on here, so I'm wondering if any of you have been watching the Fuse TV reality show NOFX Backstage Passport?

NOFX Backstage Passport

The next episode will be in Singapore. So far the past two episodes based in South America were entertaining.

So have they sold out by doing this reality show? I don't think so, and if they have, they've paid their dues, so screw it. Time to cash in, even though Fat Mike has himself a nice little mansion already.

If by "selling out" you mean the typical definition by "punks" nowadays, then they sold out long ago. Personally, I don't exactly like anything past "Ribbed".

This might be interesting to watch though. I'll try to catch it sometime.

Watch the documentary DIY or DIE at http://www.diyordie.org . I think it was Ian MacKaye who has a pretty good explanation of selling out. If it wasn't him, then maybe it was one of the other punks/artists.

I don't think NOFX has sold out. Unless playing ska is selling out, which I think it should be considered that.

NOFX sold out when they started popping up on MTV.

I still remember the first time I ever saw Descendents on MTV2. I actually thought that was pretty cool. I don't think I considered that selling out, because I don't remember the Descendents ever bad mouthing MTV. I think the song was We. That album sucked, but still, pretty cool to see them get some mainstream publicity.

The problem with NOFX appearing on MTV was all those years they spent bad mouthing MTV, only to appear on there.

Nothing wrong with getting paid. But when you go against what you preach, that is selling out.

Whoah, horsie. Hold on a second. AFAIK, NOFX has not had their video on MTV (the station). They submitted their S&M Airlines video a long time ago and got rejected by MTV, so they vowed to never appear on MTV even after MTV begged them to go on with them.

Hey there, I read all your anti-MTV things, but I heard that they actually played some of your videos sometimes. Someone told me that you had to let them play one of your videos so they would play a No Use For a Name video or something like that so you let them. What was the deal with that/any truth to it?

The story you heard is almost entirely backwards. The sad truth is that some higher ups at MTV said that unless NOFX gave permission to let them play our videos they we're not going to play the No Use video. We never did, and they dropped the No Use video shortly after. By the way, NOFX has never been played on MTV. (although I heard that MTV in Brazil did play our video once or twice, but who can be sure, things are wierd down there).

Fat Mike

So 'sico, puto.

NOFX made their first live television appearance on the Conan O'Brien show a while back and played Franco Un-American, which was classic. Conan was shocked.

Sounds like you're just bitter that Fat Mike no te capio in the restroom when you saw them at the Warped Tour or something.

I agree, I don't think they've sold out at all. If anything, they've gotten more hardcore with age. They're more political now, and getting out there with more TV exposure is undoutebly a way to further their political agenda (make a little dough). Fat Mike and NOFX were calling for Bush's impeachment long before it was fashionable.

What's funny is one of the last concerts I went to was a NOFX concert about five years ago in S.D. I remember feeling so incredibly old and vowed I wouldn't go back to another one. But the most troubling part of that experience was the fact that half the audience was there to hear dick and shit jokes between songs. When Mike started speaking out against the president, the jarheads and swabbies in the audience (and there were a lot of them) started pelting him with shit.

To tell the truth, I don't think the music is as good now. I don't know if that's reasult of them becoming more political or just getting old. "Wolves in Sheep's Clothing" (or is it the other way around) is almost unlistenable. But the new live album, "I Heard they Still Suck Live" is tits.

I don't think anything since "So Long and Thanks for All the Shoes" is bearable.

I can't say that I've heard all of their stuff since that album, but what I have heard just doesn't feel like NOFX. I'm sure a lot of people would disagree with me, but f you elchrist, I know you love to sport your "The Declined" shirt.

Funny how you completely avoid the fact that you were busted talking shit...

The Decline is actually a good song to listen to once in a very long time. Ribbed is their best album, but White Trash, Two Heebs and a Bean was good too. Although The Longest Line EP kicks ass. El Hefe really bumped up their status as "musicians."

NOFX is very entertaining live and I wouldn't mind if they played new songs during a show as long as they play Moron Bros.
