You have to be careful filling up with gas from Mex. Personally, I always make sure that I have at least a half a tank before going into Mex. With that said, I haven't put any gas from Mex in my car for years.
For some reason, it seems to matter what type of car you have. If you have an older car, you probably won't have any problems, if you have a newer car, you're probably risking it.
I used to have an old 80's Volkswagen. I never had a problem putting gas in it from Mex. Then, later, I put gas from Mex into a 2000 automobile, and the car started stalling. The car took 87 octane, so I put "la verde". I drove back to the station and put some more gas into the car, but this time, "la roja". This seemed to balance things out, and the car ran fine.
This experience was back in 2001. I don't know if the gas quality has gone up since 01, but I'm pretty sure that at least back then, something fishy was going on with the quality. |

Are you sure you weren't filling up at SPERMEX instead? |

My dad used to have this old 70s cargo van we used to use to travel into Mexico. Back in the 80s, I remember him filling up at a PEMEX in Chicali and I swear I could hear pebbles rattling in as he filled up.
I doubt my dad had rocks in the fuel tank before, so I doubt the gas he filled up with in Mex was clean. I've always been leery ever since. |

Isn't that why we have Fuel Filters for? Isn't that why we are supposed to replace or fuel filters frequently and not wait ti'll they clog?
BTW, AMPM gas isn't so clean either. |

Yeah, but the fuel filter doesn't filter out debris when you're pumping in gas. So eventually you'll have a lot of sediments on the bottom of your tank which can't be a good thing. I would imagine it would require you to change out the filter more often and maybe eventually having to replace your fuel tank.
Are you talking about AM/PM in the US, MX or both? |

| There is no AMPM gas in mexico. All gas comes from the same place, PEMEX. I am talking about AMPM gas in the states. It's always cheaper, but is also not the best. I think they buy old gas form the other companies and thats how its cheaper. |

I dunno. I always thought it was cheaper because they don't take credit cards for gas, so the CC companies don't charge them 3% or whatever the percentage is for each sale. They let you use cash and ATM. If you opt for ATM, they charge you a quarter or two or three.
A lot of independent gas stations offer gas at a few cents less per gallon if you pay with cash. I've seen this in SD and LA, but not in the valley. |
