Cab company owes Calexico $10,000
A taxi company previously in danger of losing city permits for half its fleet learned last week it owes the city $10,000 in past due licensing fees.
Calexico Taxi and Border Cab, both holdings of Ortega Enterprises headquartered here, had a bombshell dropped on it when City Manager Ralph Velez publicly stated in a council meeting that the company was paying just $180 per year while the city’s business ordinance requires it to pay $100 per cab per year. The overdue total: $10,000.
...
Calexico Taxi and Border Cab (Ortega Enterprises) was being charged $180 per year for fees while the competition was being charged $900 a year.
Compita system at work here or just another innocent mistake by the city? |

And now the taxis want to raise the fee to $5 from $4.
How about they invest in newer cars that are much more fuel efficient than continuing to drive those Crown Victorias and LTDs from the late 80s early 90s?
Real easy to just pass it on the operation costs to the customer, isn't it?
With the economy so bad and most Mexicali shoppers strapped for cash and looking to save wherever they can, I'm sure the $1 increase will make them reconsider even crossing over.
It reminds me off how Las Palmas management was stating that business was real slow right now. Why don't they drop the admission fee? Who's gonna pay money to go inside a swap meet these days? It's not exactly a theme park and it's definitely not air conditioned in these torrid summers we have.
It makes me wonder if any of the local businesses actually have any biz smarts. |
